OK the CR has bitten me bad since the test rides and I'm getting one. I got wondering about the MPG, driveability etc compared to the R. Here's my brain rant...

The different gearing between R (more top end) and CR (faster accel), I guess is the front sprocket being smaller on the CR.
Does this explain the slightly longer wheelbase on the CR, and mean that the swingarm is a different part?
This leads on to the job of changing the CR gearing to be the same as the R by putting the bigger sprocket on.
Is this going to put too much tension on the belt? (if it goes on at all) and would a Free Spirits tensioner be able help? - if they make one for these bikes cos the belt is on t'other side.

Any ideas on changing the gearing on the CR then?

Ta,
Newts

I reckon keeping it as it is will keep the power where you will use it most which is low down and in the mid range, you wont ever get the full effect of top speed riding on our roads, you may as well enjoy the extra power lower down where you can use it more effectively

Same for the Tubers, the US gearing puts the power and torque lower down transforming the feel and ride ..

......errr, I've had the R nailed to the stop a couple of times :D It's finding a deserted road long and straight enough so the needle doesn't keep creeping up, that's the problem

I think the CR swinger is slightly different to clear the belt. The gearing difference is on the final drive.

Agreed, gents. The top speed doesn't bother me - I don't think I'll be hitting that long straight road too soon. The acceleration is proper awesome and I was thinking of sacrificing a bit to get some better MPG. All a bit pie-in-the-sky at the mo'. Can't stop thinking about the bike. I should get it in a few days.
Curiousity got the better of me when I started wondering about the reason for the 10mm longer wheelbase.

Adam - so it's gearbox internals that differ, not the front sprocket? Why does the swingarm need to be different for belt clearance? - they look the same at the rear, to my untrained eye anyway.

Cheers,
Newts

Are you getting the new clutch slave piston in yours (these don't leak apparently) or aren't they in production bikes yet? If fuel economy is your priority then you may be getting the wrong bike :? Mine drinks fuel when I'm nailing it, don't ask me for figures but it reminds me of my Kawasaki two smoke triple I had as a yoof  but it rewards with huge gobs of grunt 8-)

Adam,

We discussed this yesterday.

Buy an XB!

No, but seriously.......good luck with a new CR. Although not having tried one yet, I would be interested in the different bar height options and how these effect the CR ;)

I'm getting the street-bar option. It felt really good, tho' I didn't have an issue with the std Ace bars TBH. Will also have a remus can, and I'll have the baffles out straight away.
Fuel economy isn't my main concern by a long way and I prob won't be giving it hurt as much as some. Just one of those things pinging round my head about the gearing.

I'll ask the tech about the clutch leak. Is it a recall yet?

Cheers,
Newts

I doubt the 'Tech' will know about the latest version of the clutch operation mechanism unless your buying from MchrHD or BB, it's not a recall but will be going into production in the future. Don't worry about removing the baffle from the Remus, it'll drop out by itself

Any idea how I can find out if the clutch slave is the newer one (apart from finding out if it's leaking ;) )? Your right. I doubt the technician will know. Is the front brake routing a recall, and will it show on their compooter yet? No harm in asking them I s'pose.

LOL about the remus. I think they have 2 production lines at the factory, one with a welder and the other with Bubbles the Chimp armed with a soldering iron. It's pot luck!
Mine will have the remus poweriser thingy - any experience of this?

Cheers,
Newts

CR has slightly longer swinging arm and greater reduction on the rear wheel pulley sprocket I believe, the drive sprocket remains unchanged, I also seem to remember that the belt idler bracket may be different, you'll have to have a look at the 1125R/CR parts book.

The CR gearing in top gear is close to the 1125R in fifth as I understand

I was going to try the Poweriser as a compliment to the pipe. After the reaction I got when the baffle weld broke, I though 'fuck 'em'. I'll never buy anything from Remus again :x

Adam, my first Remus pipe for the firebolt had a crap weld which broke on the front mounting bracket. The retailer collected it, sent it back to remus and got me a new one foc which was fine for shedloads of miles in all weather and is still great.
See my point about 2 production lines, mentioned previously. You must have had the Bubbles :tosser: line do your pipe.
Any idea how I can check the clutch part?

I'd like to get my hands on a parts book and manual. I've got everything for my old firebolt, but god knows what's the same on the CR??? Are they books/pdf's even available for the R and CR yet?
Not sure about the top gear/5th gear comparison. I thought I'd read an article where the CR had been GPS'd at ~156mph. That'd be a lot for the R in 5th??? Time for a long nosey with the 2 bikes side-by-side me thinks... Have to wait til next week to get hold of mine tho' :headbang:

I had the uprated clutch system fitted just over a couple of months back. I believe mine was the first to be done since the parts came direct from Rotax, If the build date on your bike is older than that, then I suspect you've got the old type of slave piston and seal ;)
