Hello All,

So, as I previously mentioned on the facebook group, I was installing the swing arm brace back onto my XB12S the other week and I have stripped a thread when putting the longest bolt in.

It was recommended that it should be repaired with a helicoil or timesert.

I have spoken to a few local bike places and none of them can fix an imperial thread.

They have suggested it could be drilled to the next metric size and then repaired with a thread insert and obviously a metric bolt.

What are people's thoughts on this? Will it do the job and allow me to get using the bike again?

Imperial helicoils are readily available.

What Maz said , imperial thread repair kits are available, I'm guessing the guys you have asked are either lazy or stupid and can't count past ten so don't understand imperial sizes it is always best to keep threads the original size if possible as it prevents later confusion.

I believe the issue is that they don't have the correct size drill bits, tap and die sets etc.

Just buy yourself a kit, they're not expensive and it sounds like you will probably need it in future !

I went to buy plugs for the spider at a large independent parts shop near me, 4 NGK B7ES plugs please, whats the reg number mate what do you need that for pal I just need B7ES plugs they will be on that wall behind you gives the dick the reg and he says sorry mate its too old and not listed, fuck off says I and I left.
The world or at least the UK is just full of bone idle pricks.

Some shops even can't look up the parts in their magazine if they don't have a reg number.
Everything goes by computer these day's and using a couple brain cells is not standart anymore!

There are enough times that i sowed them the part i needed ,and they don't know what it was.

It is a bit expensive for only one repair ,but it is the only way to do it the right way.

Cheers, I've just ordered one.

I'm tempted to give the repair a go myself rather than waste more time with bike shops. I was put off the idea of doing this myself because I don't really trust myself to take a drill to my swing arm...

Thanks to the excellent help on this forum I have got my bike back on the road!

Bought that thread repair kit. Me and a mate had a few beers to steady us and started driling. Swing arm brace is now in place and MOT passed.
