I have a mechanic trying to replace a stanchion on X1 2001 he is having difficulty removing the lower part axle clamp. Any clues as to removing this. Guy says it should just unscrew.

Remove the grub screw, then heat the lower and it will unscrew.

What’s the best way of heating it Maz. Wouldn’t want it to melt.

Hot air gun.....there is an O ring in the bottom that will need replacing.

No worries....and find another mechanic !......a decent one wouldn't need telling these things.....god knows what sort of a job he's gonna do rebuilding the forks
