There have been a number of articles on TV etc. about the new MoT tests for Cars but there are some changes for bikes too, that I have just been told about during the MoT on this S1 this morning.

Stuff that was discussed by my friendly station this morning that people may want to be aware of:

- Rear Reflector now has to be in on the Longitudinal Centreline of the bike (my MoT only plate had a old large red reflector epoxied onto the RHS of the plate - though common sense prevailed today at least)
- Also with respsect to the exhaust system:
'The exhaust system and silencer should be in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the motorcycle isn't clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle with a standard silencer in average condition.'
I guess that with older bikes this will be difficult to prove as there are no comparison bikes fitted with standard systems out there (and again common sense prevailed) but is more likely for an MoT station to be picky and this is now a Major and therefore a fail.

Hopefully decent and bike friendly mot stations will keep it real. The guy I use says he’d rather see/hear a loud can than have folk riding illegally because they can’t get an mot.

Had my S1 done Thursday. He loves to talk about the buell it's the only one he sees. One day he might ask me to start it up It made me laugh when he sat on it to roll it into the brake rollers and said after all of 5 seconds ' oh my bollox don't like this seat at all ' when I said I ride it to Towcester he asked if I'd had mine removed

I think "clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle" is still a vague expression, and not measured in a numerical way, so surely it'll be just the same as before - up to the MOT tester. So no change.
