Post subject:  Damaged Oil Plug Thread

Hello,

Based in London and happy owner of a Buell XB12SX since 2010.

My mistake: I believe the plug was tighten too hard during the last oil change. I am pretty sure the thread is damaged, and I fear it may come with the plug next time I unscrew it. :headbang:

The oil needs to be changed now and I am looking for a garage which could fit an insert (TIME-SERT 1/2 - 20 SAE Drain Plug).

I already have the insert kit and I prefer an insert to drilling and threading at a larger diameter or to any sort of Helicoil solution.

Could you recommend a garage in particular in London for such repairs?

I live nearby Jap and German Motorcycle in Bermondsey but don’t know whether they could assist.

Many thanks
Ben

IIRC the manual has the wrong torque setting in it.

edit - just looked in my old manual, it says 26-29 ft/lb, but I've scribbled 15 ft/lb MAX next to it :P
