The coating on my rear sprocket is flaking off. I've used a wire brush with limited results, what's a recommended way to remove the rest; scraper, chemical or bead blasting?

I took the chemical route last time with e drill mounted wire brush to get the stubborn bits.

Hi there,

Could you tell me if it's steel or alloy? Mines still good with the coating but looks shit as it won't clean properly. I'm also not sure about having hefty cleaning agents too close to the belt & I don't want to scratch it to see in case it starts the peeling process.
If it's alloy I may polish it but if not, it'll be left till I can be bothered to repaint or when I fit another belt.

Thanks. Paul.

It's alloy.
Did mine as part of over winter spruce up, so no hardship with removal from bike, I've seen some very nice polished ones but not for me.

Chemicals suggested so far green Nitromors and Aircraft Paint Stripper; which chemical did you use, delw?

Thanks for that Delw.

Buffing wheel ready, I'll be stripping mine with Green nitromors, always works ok for me but can stain alloy if you leave on too long, which doesn't matter if your re-painting.

Thanks again Delw.
