So more eletrickery issues with the Ully... This time it definitely isnt just a duff battery... nice ride out to the local bike cafe for some breakfast with some mates, all good on the way there, come out after breakfast and it fires straight up while i put on my lid and gloves and then dies before i climb aboard and the fan starts spinning, wont start again, just spins and spins engine light is flashing and when the key is out the fan spinning still even though its not hot.
As it was a 5 hour wait for recovery :o I left the bike and went home, got the spare fully charged battery some tools and a multi meter, and went back to the bike, tested everything i could think of and all was good but even with the fresh battery just spins as if there is no fuel and the engine light flashes.

This did happen once before on boxing day last year but started again after a couple of mins and has ran fine ever since.

I dont have an ecm cable and want to diagnose this properly instead of going chasing after problems that dont exist. Where can i get one and will it tell me where the issue is? as always a google of the symptoms brings up all sorts of ideas from a rear head temp sensor to a knackered ecm!

My 09 Uly had a habit of blowing the fuel pump fuse, would spin over but obviously no fuel so would not run, cured by replacing the 10 amp with a 15. I have done around 20000 miles since with no issues.
I do not remember the engine management light coming on though.

just read the errors from the ecm jumping the plug and counting the flashes

I have the following
11 - TPS
14 - Engine Temp Sensor
15 - Intake Air Temp Sensor
16 - Battery Voltage
33 - Fuel Pump :(
44 Bank Angle sensor

Im guessing some of these are historic, such as the bank angle sensor and the battery voltage?

where do i go next...?

look at the cables around the head stock area

check your ecm isn't being crushed /cracked by the seat

yea both ok, ECU is a race version and mounted nicely away from being crushed

take it to :maz:
even with the cost of van hire or couirer it will work out cheaper and less stressful in the end :idea:

bikes just been delivered back from a short spell with :maz:.........

ECU was kaput! not a mark on it though so externally looked perfect....

new one fitted along with a couple of other small jobs that i hadnt and probably wouldnt have got round to!

got a few other little jobs to do to it that :maz: pointed out while we are house/garage bound! Thanks Maz..

The fuel pump fuse on my XB12 blew on Saturday. Fortunately I was sitting at a junction, not doing 90 on the motorway as I had been an hour earlier! I have replaced it with the standard 10A fuse. My questions are:

Would replacing the 10A with a 15A cause a bigger problem later?

Is the blown fuse an early warning of a more serious problem?

Some 09 bikes seem prone to blowing the fuel pump fuse, mine normally went on a hot day when low on fuel at very low speed or stopped at a junction, so the pump was getting warmer than normal, the 15 amp fuse cured it, still ok after about 23000 miles.

Well, that's exactly my circumstances, hot day, low fuel and at a junction.

I will swap for a 15A fuse then. I didn't want to cause a problem with the pump with the bigger fuse, but with your mileage being okay I will give it a go.
