The throttle sits wherever you set it; no return to idle tension. Grip is not binding.
I think the only return spring is in the throttle body - correct?
Cannot see a part number in the Parts Manual; can they be changed?
Thanks all

Only spring I see is on the throttle body.
Are both throttle cables in good nick, not frayed, binding in the sleeves?

Re: XB12XT Throttle - no return spring?
looking at parts list
it looks like you could change spring IF you can find replacement or make your own .
also looks a bit of a mare to do

Thanks for the comments.
Barney - I looked at that post; before I strip it down I need to know that, if the spring is broken, I can get a replacement. Or maybe I am lucky and it just came off the holder.....
Will check cables too.
Bike is rideable - did 120 miles today - but not ideal.
Maz is a long way away but I can borrow a trailer!

Re: XB12XT Throttle - no return spring?

as stated in the post ,others have done high mileage without a spring and no issues , personaly I wouldn't .
reminds me of the time on a jap bike my throttle cable (pull cable ) broke and had to reconfigue and use push cable to open throttle , but now throttle worked backwards = open throttle for tickover , close throttle for flat out

Re: XB12XT Throttle - no return spring?
Well, it wasn't the spring.
The heated grip heating wire has "blown", rising up and fouling the handlebar. I tried to press it back (access is difficult - a gynaecology degree would help) but is is solid. I might try removing the rubber outer and scrape away the plastic from the other side.
Has anyone got a spare right-hand heated grip off an XB that they could sell me? I will post in Wanted too.
Thanks all.

Re: XB12XT Throttle - no return spring?
Cheers Barney.
I once heard Gynae described as trying to decorate the hallway through the letterbox.....
So the bump appears to be beside the visible wire spiral, not directly on it, so as a temporary measure I ran a round file over it to reduce the height. Works OK now, binds a bit but returns to idle OK.
No chance to check the heated grip heating yet.
Still looking for a replacement as I think the heating won't work.
Time will tell.
