Post subject:  Ulysses - no spark + odd clutch thing

I was having a great time on the Uly around the Suffolk A & B roads when it just died.
No stuttering or messing about just dead.

Got it home - no spark. No trigger signal to the coil. Connector is as expected with 12v to the middle pin but no trigger action when turning over.

Progress so far - Checked as much as I can:
Coils, Plug Leads etc all within tolerance (not relevant but I checked anyway)
Relays, Fuses etc all OK.
Disconnected Bank Angle Sensor.
Crank Pos Sensor seems normal but hard to tell with an Argos Multimeter.
The CPS itself has green goo on it - Melted potting compound??

There is a clue which I am hoping someone will be able to interpret:
In order to get the starter to turn, the clutch needs to be pulled in. (This was not the case before)
The Neutral light is on and the bike is in neutral.

As an aside a previous owner has deleted the kick stand switch (if it ever had one).

I've just about run out of ideas - need to figure out this clutch thing.

Thanks in advance
Paul

IIRC there is a switch on the clutch that stops you starting if its in gear
side stand also has a switch , I would try them first
I'm on nightshift so cant remember 100% ,
but i think it was short the clutch & open circuit the side stand switches

OR it could be the neutral switch playing up tricking the bike to think it's in gear which would give the same no start

Thanks

I think the previous owner deleted the side stand switch.

I will make the neutral switch my next focus.

Do we know whether the neutral switch safety function disables the starter motor or the spark or both?

Prior to the fault the bike would start in neutral or with the clutch pulled in if it was in gear.
I know the starter didn't work but not sure about the spark.

I would imagine that it wouldn't effect the spark as I assume it would be possible to bump start it in gear (if I was physically able that is).

Thanks
Paul

Forget the clutch thing - a red herring - apologies.

When my mate was checking fuses by the side of the road, he put the diode in backwards.

Just down to no trigger signals to the coils now.
