My S3t has been laid up for some time. The oil tank is empty. Am I OK to start it, or should I be draining it lower down by the pump first and refilling?
I can hear the howls of derision :oooops: , but I could not find any answers on backdated searches.

was the oil level ok when you last used it and put it away ??
if so , I would remove spark plugs , put the rear on a stand, then put it in gear and turn over by hand, to make sure that the wet sump is not hydraulic locking the engine , if turns over ok , put it back in neutral , leave spark plugs out and use starter motor to spin it over ( couple of 10 second burst ) and get some of the oil back in to the oil tank , then put spark plugs back in and start engine .

Thank you Barney.
Yes, the level in the tank was correct when put away.
Have removed the plugs, turned it over a few times, and been rewarded by a small pool of oil under the engine  Have not pursued it further as I am doing a number of other jobs.
