Took the standard air box off the x1, replaced with a foam filter from halfords, drilled a hole in the filter venturi to fit the IAT sensor,
started up went for a run, after about a mile it started to mis fire and cough, pulled up on drive, stalled and would not start again.
took tank off and checked connectors and wires for wear,
did a flash test and it came up with 15 (iat sensor) and 33 (fuel pump)
Iat was placed in direct air flow in the venturi (now moved to inside a bit of hosepipe cable tied to frame)
Went to it this morning and she started, but not yet taken for a good run.
codes 15 and 33 still showing,
could the tank being off and empty cause 33 to flash (do yuo have to bleed the system)
and could the fact that the iat sensor was placed in direct venturi airflow caused 15 to flash and cause the really bad running or damage the sensor ?
Have ordered a cd manual off fleabay and ordered the lead for the ecm spy but the download link on the ecmspy web site not working.(posted a where to get software question in chat section)
Wheres the best place to get a new IAT sensor ? i read somewhere that they are bosch

Fuel pump can be heard priming, fuel vent clear, running with a v&h exhaust.
sorry for the question overload but its doing my head in and shite weather on the way.
fuel injection is all new to me, will learn Slowly !!

Are the faults showing as current (engine light staying on) or are they historic faults (only appearing when you run the diagnostic / attach the paperclip)?

That post reads as if you are checking the historic codes. Once a fault is logged, it stays in the list until the history is cleared, and you'll need a tray... sorry, you'll need to get ECMSpy to clear the list yourself.

The ECU will need to re-learn it's approach to life if you have changed the air filter so dramatically. You'll need a good run at a steady throttle to allow it to do that.

You might also do well to visit Maz at the Emporium. It's fairly close to you, in Manchester. Maz's phone number is on the site and he'll help over the phone but do us all a favour and don't abuse the free phone service he offers.

Right, cheers, errors must be historic, engine light goes off a few secs after you turned the ign. on and stays off when running never tried it before the problem started, not long had the bike, not had chance to give it a good run.
could it be the ecu just needs that run to learn the new fuel/airmixture and that will be problem solved. we live in hope.

Cable on its way, just need the software, ecmspy download link not working, can you get the software on c.d?

PM Gunter direct and if asked nicely he may allow you a copy of ecmspy ( he is one of the developers ) ecmspy is not freely available now as i believe they had some issues with the software being abused.

I bought a set of EcmSpy leads when they first became available, but never got round to actually using them. Then I sort of lost interst in the thread because it seemed to morph in a playground for the XB boys and completely missed this unfortunate news.
Does this mean my brand new, unused, still in the jiffy-bag they came in set of leads are totally useless?

Thanks people, pm sent, will have a look at threads.

Firstly a massive thanks to Gunter for soting ecmspy,
got the cable etc, plugged the bike in to take a look for the first time.
the error codes were historic so cleared them, no current fault codes. saved the eeprom, Reset the tps, set the afv to 100% .
took her out for a 15mile spin, staying within the closed loop rev range, went well except for a bit lumpy in town, Connected to spy again, no error codes, Great.
Problem seems to have sorted itself as all i have done is moved the IAT sensor from inside the air filter venturi and tied it on the outside of the filter.(mushroom air filter). Now perfectly rideable.
Noticed in the fuel maps that there are a few areas where the numbers are not smooth, will learn more about mapping before i start playing in that area.
When reading up on the pc screen, info does not seem to register with my brain as it does ween reading on a piece of paper so its going to take a while. Could really do with someone with experience in ecmspy showing the way, but 'hey ho' will get there in the end.
Will do another run in the closed loop area before i take it into the open loop.

F... me its noisy with its vance and hines, dont think it will last long here in north wales with the filth as keen as they are. Have got a standard silencer but the v&h headers are different. will look out for a set of standard headers to give me the option of changing if plod hasle me.
Get noise from the air filter as well, sounds like a megaphone connected to the inlet manifold !!

Are you sure which sysyem you actually have?
The V&H fits straight on the standard downpipes using the V&H elbow.
I've never reckoned the V&H is that loud, anyway.

IIRC, that's right, the V&H fits straight onto the Euro spec 2" headers.

But I'd have to argue with the volume. My last X1 was fecking loud with the V&H on it.

maybe i'm wrong, but i was told it was v&h when i bought the bike, came with a standard silencer in a v&h box, the headers go from 2 into 1 below the engine, the standard silencer i have would need the 2 into 1 part in front of the engine just below the rectifier. will get a few pics and try and put them on.
The plod here in north wales are anal retentative, stop you on a whim and will crawl on thier hands and knees looking for BS stamps, Slugs they are.
I LOVE the sound, even if it does set off nieghbours cars alarms, just thinking ahead and trying to save a few quid on fixed penalties in the future.
