Hi - I wonder if anyone can help. I've had my bike (XB9SX '08) for about 6 weeks. Love the look, the ride and the bikes performance. But I've got a couple of niggles with it, and my local dealer, just tells me.......wait for it..........they don't like buells and you get some good ones and some bad ones.............wait for it, the best is to come................ thats why harley dropped them and not even sold them off - for me the mind boggles, I'm sure thats not the line they told people when they sold them!!! Anyway thats a minor issue, my future business can go elsewhere. The bike has a flat spot around 3-4k, it feels at time like its fuel starvation, as the engine seems to feel restrictated at that range. Also the bike pops like mad through the exhaust when decellerating-when you shut the throttle down. This is my first buell, if this is normal please let me know and I can ride in peace, and not hassle any dealers. If it is a problem, can anyone let me know what to do, or where there is a good buell dealer who will help - the bike is still in warranty. I live in the East Midlands - Derby/Nottingham Thanks for taking the time to read this - please help!!!! |

You paid for your Warranty with the purchase price. If your bike isn't running properly, take it back. Would you name this dealer please, since it may save another forum member the same shit treatment you seem to be in for? Good dealers are Mchr or Black Bear. Otherwise, use Maz who is an independent in Mchr - and worth the ride over. |

Thanks for all the replies. I will name the dealer after my bike is returned, I phoned them today and they have done the TPS, so I will keep you informed. But as I have been bit by the buell bug, I am looking for good dealers for the usual service and repairs. Thanks everyone. PS it is a stock bike. |

This may be too fine-toothed an issue if he has a more general problem with the bike, but with an '08, would one still be looking to do the "white wire mod" to smooth out a mid-rpm flat? Just asking out of curiosity, since I don't have a 9. Or a clue, most of the time... |

Do we take it this is a second hand bike and not from a Buell/HD dealer? |

....or read the manual and do it yerself, no special tools required.......just a couple of twists of the throttle grip with the ignition on |

Mine pops and bangs like a firework/shotgun on the over run and when changing up a gear and I like it like that. Its just unburnt fuel igniting as it goes through the headers, nout to worry about, better that that running lean I also had a small flat spot after fitting a Remus and filter but a TPS reset sorted that |

I've been thru this with the local HD dealer, who can't help much as they just do what the pooter tells them. Tubbs suspects throttle barrel and I suspect leaky exhaust or inlet seal leak. The backfire got worse after a new ECM was fitted but that could be coincidence with a worsening exhaust. The exhaust can is an HP oval that looks very much like a free spirits 420 it has cracked where the spoiler bracket joins (vibrates alot) and through rivet holes...... not good for a 'quality' item, IMO. I'd buy a stealth if it were up to me. The plot thickens |

Assuming no air leaks, the ecm could be adjusted in the fuel bins at TPS = rolled off. More fuel or less fuel say 10% should stop popping. Even though its an 08 model, ecmspy can download the eeprom and you can "burn changes only", or if its an early 08, ecmspy can edit the fuel maps directly. Dannybuell are you running a stock pipe? The flat spot at 3k - 4k, I thought that was standard, well it came standard on the only test ride of a new stock XB9 I ever did, but maybe yours is worse than that. Dunno. |

Hi - picked the bike up - massive improvement - runs superb - well only done 60 miles. They didn't charge anything ( warranty) and they now provided me with an electronic print out of the settings - the TPS was 46 when the max setting is 42 ( I really don't know what this means - i'm a centigrade guy - 0 or 100?). I will keep you informed. Also I think they read this forum - a bit better response when I picked the bike up. thanks for all the help and comments. |

my mind goggles reading the techi conversations you lot have.. i so wish i was technical i try to follow it and ive read some of the how to stuff but iget half way down a page and am like errrrrrrr am sorry what! and there u are am lost! I used to try and follow stuff my mates do and i do still try and listen now but am afraid most of it just goes over my head and it sucks coz i actually want to no stuff.... theres nothing worse than people talking about bikes and presuming (rightly I know that coz am a woman I no fuck all) you either get one of two reactions when walking into a bike shop/garage as a woman either everyone is bending over backwards to try and help you or everyone treats you like a c**t and to be truthful I dont no which is worse |
