Hi - I have just bought a stock xb12 muffler (from Pash) which I am going to put on my xb9

I Need to lock open the Valve and just wanted to know if anyone has any advice on how to do it.

Cheers Andy

Weld it open !

For advice, you could ask Tubbs as he is the fine purveyer of modified stock exhausts and will no doubt know what's best to do ...

You will lose torque in mid rpm then, more than with an XB12.

do you mean in general? Will I lose torque in the mid range if I were to spot weld it as well

You lose torque if you let the valve open.

Ok, so can I leave it as it is?

The XB12 muffler with the valve closed is basically like a XB9 muffler. This topic had been discussed in the archived threads lately.

I've been running a 12 muffler on my 9 for a fair while now.

Closed = quiet and good torque
1/2 closed is a compromise.
Open = sounds better but less midrange torque.

I have a bar mounted lever to adjust mine.

Put it on the bike and wire the valve open, test it and see what you think.

I'm happy with mine.

Thanks mate - exactly what I was looking for I like the manual valve adjuster you've done, i'm gonna give that a go myself.

did you have to do anything to your ECM?

Thanks - Andy

why would you bother with the hastle, surely there is an aftermarket box that would save the worry of the valve setup and would be more suited to your engine charactaristics......xb12r user....

Of course, but any muffler is a compromise. A Remus will behave similar to a stock exhaust with the valve open, a Reverso like with the valve closed... The Buell valve is there to give the best of both worlds...

If you really wanted to, you could buy a servo motor and set the ECM up to make it work like a 12. I know someone that will sell you the servo motor, the cable and the airbox lid.

I also know someone that will create you an EEPROM file to do the job :D
