If you hang on a week, I am going to do a How To to change it. I believe the bearing PN is 6203-2RS (get some SKF ones off EBay). The How To will say: Loosen axle pinch bolt Loosen axle Remove tensioner fork (or Free Spirits Tensioner) Remove tensioner wheel Remove circlip with a pair of thin nosed pliers Knock bearings out from non-circlip side Knock small flat bladed screwdriver between the bearings (once out) to seperate them Knock aluminium spacers out Press aluminium spacers into new bearings Press bearings back in Put it all back together Bob's your uncle and fanny's your aunt Since I have not done it yet, I cannot confim everything and I cannot offer solutions to problems I have not found... AND... Important for you... I understand the early 9s had one bearing in the pulleywheel, 5203-2RS, a double row bearing 17.5mm wide rather than the 12mm wide 6203s on the later models. Comments to the above, by those who have aready done it, are welcome... Cheers Nick |

Not 100% but the bearing should have a number on it go to web site such as simply bearings ltd A uk supplier and you should be able to pop no in and get a match I did this for wheel bearings also they are dead cheap ie wheel bearing about £5.00 each |

ok stupid question number 2, ive found one by searching under 5203-2rs, and it has returned one on e-bay which says its a 3203/5203 DOUBLE ROW ANGULAR CONTACT BEARING 17X40X17.5, is this what i am looking for? (sorry for denseness!) Thanks also for the how to, although i must admit im hoping it will be done for me, its going in for tyres and i figured while its there id ask them to go a bit further. cheers ben |

No it must be a 6203 2rs (6203 identifies the bearing size 2rs is two rubber seals ) |

Have a look at the bearing number, you should be able to see it on the outer race, maybe with it in place in the wheel. |

+1 on 5203 for 2002/2003 models. I found this number on my old one also. How to remove the retaining ring? This is not the standard type, looks more like a furled spring, but it's the same type for all tensioner wheels, regardles of model. |

(sorry for denseness!) 6203 are 17 x 40 x 12 5203 are 17 x 40 x 17.5 (11/16") SKF do not appear to do a 3203, however other manufacturers may and as long as it meets the size criteria, it will fit. Whatever you buy, you want the double sealed variety, i.e. 2RS (SKF) or RSR (FAG) Probably a good idea to get in touch with your local BSL Brammer www.brammer.co.uk and give them the dimensions, sealing etc. Ask for high speed ones, that thing will be rotating twice or three times the speed of your rear wheel. |

pash wrote: Fag number them as a 3203 Bearing numbering is not entirely 100% universal. Usually it is American designs that are out of step with the rest of the world. However, a reputable firm like BSL Brammer, for example, will have no problem telling you what you need if you quote the numbers.
