Post subject:  Are R&G crash bung causing me a problem ?

I collected my new Buell Lightning XB12Ss yesterday, knocked out over 170 miles around Devons roads, did the lot dual carrigway, A roads and country lanes, when I picked the bike up I looked at the R&G crash bung, it is sited right in front of the air intake for cooling the rear cylinder, bear in mind this is my first Buell and the first one I have ever ridden, but the fan seemed to run for ages for probably 20 miles along the dual carigway, has anyone else had this problem, the engine managment didnt start missing the spark to cool the rear cylinder, so it cant be getting that hot, so is it normal and just me getting used to a new bike, or are the bungs restricting the flow, if so will fitting the right hand side scop fix this issue :)

It is normal. Why is it an issue? If your fan came on on a watercooled bike, would you fit a bigger radiator?

People ride their Buell's in hotter climates that us with no right scoops...

the fans do run more when new.
as you get more miles on , it should be less frequent.
i dont think your crash bungs would restrict the air flow too badly .

I've got a RH scoop as well, but you're probably not riding in 115 deg F temperatures :P

Totally normal, run it in properly, but it won't be completely 'bedded' in yet for at least 5000 miles! ;)

Mine's got about 2500 miles on it and completely roasted my inner thigh today in slowish traffic. Can't wait to get it properly run-in!

Yep, I was also worried about the R&G crash bar I'd fitted :oooops:
.....so I made a small foam aerofoil to assist airflow around the bar. The only 'winged' Buell as far as I know.

If you do this make sure the wing is not too big as to affect the bikes stability, is inverted so as not to produce lift, and is heat proofed, and I hereby deny any responsibility for what happens next. ;)

Anyway, wait until 5000 miles and you get paranoid about the fan not coming on enough.
