Ok, second one... It's getting really hard to select neutral when stationary; if I select it as I roll to a halt, it's fine, but once stationary, it just the "1st-2nd-1st-2nd" routine, up and down. Whilst performing this tap-dance, the gear-lever is pretty stiff to move from 1st to 2nd, as well, altho' it's ok on the move... |

Adjust your clutch, sounds like it's dragging. |

Primary chain adjustment is pretty crucial too |

I had this problem on S1WL in conjunction with a well knackered detent plate giving false neutrals. If clutch adjustment don't work it could be a damaged pressure plate, not too difficult or expensive to fix. |

Adam wrote: Adjust your clutch, sounds like it's dragging. Yup.. adjusted clutch, seems ok. Must admit, I've never had call to tweak the clutch before (tho' I check the primary regularly) - it was a surprisingly "subtle" adjustment. BTW, do I recall it being said that clutch cables for tubers were scarce/expensive? If so mebbe I'll take a trip to Venhill for a spare... mine's original, so 10-yrs old, now..... |

Anybody experienced this on an XB12s. I have touble selecting neutral after the bike is fully warmed up and the gear change is stiff between 1st and 2nd. I will check primary chain and clutch adjustment but am worried that it is something deeper |

pash wrote: Primary cover clutch actuator shelf? I had two clutch covers break in the early dsys with the XB. I'll certainly take a close look. The problem only happens after a long fast ride. I commute from Torquay to Exeter every day. If I give it loads on the way home the problem is worse tonight was more sedate no sign of stiff gear change or difficult neutral selection. I will check all of the above. Thanks all |

Ok think I've found the problem. Clutch case full of mayonnaise I think the water got in down the cable. |

Doubt very much that the mayo is causing your issue. |
