Do a search, the wires tend to fray at the pump IIRC.

Who is your yocal dealer?

My mate had this happen on his XB12 lightening long. The dealership had at first thought it was down to a fuel pump fault, then said they couldn't find a fault to justify replacing it on warrenty. So he got arsey & traded it for an XR1200 instead.

I was a bit scared to venture in here but I'm glad I did.

My 09 Scg coasted to a halt going up a steep, busy hill on the way home from work tonight and left me stranded on a blind bend, bloody thing!

It lost power, the oil light cam on and I just coasted (which isn't very far uphill). On trying the ignition I couldn't hear the fuel pump so tried to spare fuse and hey ho, off we went again.

Kevmean tipped me the nod to the fuel pump wire so I'll get that checked out and see what's what. This thread (and the link to the other one, thanks Pash) have been really helpful - but hopefully I won't need to find myself in Tech again....

Scuttles out quickly....

Is it still under the warranty?

Yeah.

Just checked it - all fuel pump wires look ok from what we can see of them. The plan I think is to get a couple of spare 10amp fuses and see how it goes...unless anyone knows better???

Trip to Blackbear anyone? Steve, you'll be getting a call mate ;)

Roz, the problem with the fuel pump comes from a wire shorting inside the tank and can only be revealed/ fixed with the pump removed.

Others know more than me but I am sure the wiring outside the tank is ok.

Well the dealer has put a couple of fuses in the post, said I'm to keep an eye on it. What concerns me is whether this will choose to happen again somewhere worse that a blind uphill bend - like overtaking.
He said that they've only heard of one other incident, and that was on a twisty uphill stretch too. I have to ride that hill on most rides as it's how we get up the downs (well, there is the A249 but this one has a lovely sweeping motorway bridge at t'other end) so maybe it was the road I was on and the way I was riding
I kind of agree with the replace and see theory but it does worry me that the bike may be unstable and that the advice was to avoid twisties - it is a Buell after all!

My 08 Scg has blown 2 fuel pump fuses in the last 3 months. On both occasions it was on a roundabout. Bit embarrassing when all the cars you passed earlier go trundling past you stranded in the middle of a roundabout. But more than that its f-ing dangerous.

You kind of lose faith in going far on these bikes without fear of breaking down but I still love it. If I need to be sure I will get somewhere I'll take my 'other' bike. No its not a C90!
