Hello to all, Im new :D just got my first Buell , its an xb9sx love the bike and been after one for a few years now. the bike is on a 55plate with 2000 miles on it. As you will proabably gather it has done a lot of standing still in a garage. My problem is that the battery started the bike three or four times then the next time i hit the starter button i just got a lot of loud rapid clicking. I put the battery on a quick charge and it fired the bike up no problems at all but then again after about four starts it has done the same again. does this sound like a buggered battery or is it somthing worse?
Many thanks in advance,
Andy

could well be but , leave it on trickle charge ALL night then try again, the battery is happier if left on an optimate (or similar) if stood up for too long.

Gaffer used to know a girl like that...

X 2. Note that even if it's measuring a good voltage it may not have the cranking power required. V twins need a lot!
If you do use a 'Battery conditioner' and the bike is unused for a very long time then -disconnect it now and again for a period of 2/3 weeks. It's good exercise for the Battery!

Buells take a lot from the battery to crank over, most people use the HD ones as they are long lasting , i use one of these http://www.barden-ukshop.com/odyssey-ag ... -102-c.asp

yours may just have given up the struggle, first charge the battery fully .

if you have an electrical multi meter..
put it on the DC volts setting, connect across the battery , then try starting it , you should read a drop to around 9 volts, any lower and it's goosed.

OR if you haven't, after fully charging the battery
turn the ignition on, DON'T start it, leave for 2 minutes, then try and start it, if the battery is weak it won't after 2 mins with the headlight draining it.

Well after four full days on charge I reconnected the battery left the ignition on for about two minutes, hit the starter button and......... Nothing so I am guessing my battery is well and truly goosed!

Your battery is definitely dead but a word of warning. I went to pick up my "new"1125r from Riders and it had been charged in the same way and allegedly test ridden that very morning after a final PDI. The salesman started the bike outside and left it ticking over and it stopped as they sometimes can. It would not restart and after 30 seconds cranking the battery was dead. They fitted a new battery but no joy. All the charging and messing about with it had blown the engine management computer which they had to replace with one off another bike. Took them 2hrs to sort out.

Point is : BE careful with the chargers, particularly with a broken battery as it could easily allow a boost charger to over voltage the electronics.

Incidentally the Riders PDI allowed me to ride a new bike from the showroom with the front tyre at 17 psi and the oil level off the bottom of the dipstick :headbang: .
Regards Hugh

hopefully the fact that i had removed the battery to charge might eliminate that problem of blowing the ecu, or at least i hope so!! Ive had five years of trouble free biking with my little fzr 400, had my buell a couple of weeks and it has fought me all the way. Still think its an awesome bike though despite the teething problems.

A wise move to disconnect & remove for recharging. ;)

If you need a new battery, I would suggest an odyssey
