Hi all,

Is it possible to take this shock apart, as mine is leaking from the front.
I have the possibility to purchase all seals if need, but can they be replaced. ??

Thanks for any help.

Chris

Er no, it's not... and what are you doing with that (Recall Type 1?) piece of junk? They should've all been replaced with Recall Type 2 if not Type 3 many years ago......
Wisdom here is to get a replacement from AST but you may need to sell a kidney first.

At least it's a recall, my mate was riding around with a non recalled shock on his S1 untill last week!...

Did it break? My S1 still has original shock  I was 2 up at the weekend which is very rare for me so hopefully it will cope with my normal riding. Have forum members seen many actual failures? I was made redundant a while ago so budget to replace it is zero.

Was anyone else here at Weymouth beach racing on Sunday?

.....and that's not a recall shock, it has the SRP kit fitted.

To answer your question, no, it's not rebuildable and I'm puzzled as to how it can leak from the front unless a weld is failing ?

Fret not - So does my S3. I'm not holding my breath for a recall any more. One day I may do the AST thing. The WP is at least rebuild-able - and if it's lasted 10 years - my guess is it's OK.

:ner: Purists ;)

Hi there,
It is leaking from the end near 17inch on ruler,
there is a wiper seal which appears to have come out.
Can this be replaced, and can I dismantle the shock to do this

thanks

Chris

Ideally if your feeling a little flush you could get one of these

Piston rod seal at the REAR of the shock has failed. The oil you're seeing at the front has run down inside the spring cylinder.
The wiper seal at the front is only there in an attempt to keep road shit out of the nylon slider bushing for the spring ie. it serves little purpose and is not an oil seal.
To strip the shock you will have to fabricate a tool to compress the spring.....nothing is available commercially, even Buell dont have a tool for this.
In any event, you're wasting your time because even if the shock was rebuildable (which they're not) it would soon fail again.

Ash, the ebay shock you've linked to would also require a new front mount as it's 2'' shorter than the one Shirana has.

AST is the way to go IMO.
