my ully failed its mot last year because of the 32k miles front disc loosing 40kg of braking force.
a new one was fitted to get it through last years mot.
this year the mot test revealed 15-20kg lost and an advisory notice.

the mot tester reckons if the wear rate continues then next year 4okg again willbe lost and it would fail.

200 odd pounds plus for another new disc next year.

quality of product comes to mind

cheers
chris

anybody had similar issues with there ully front disc

Never in all the time I've owned bikes has anyone ever tested the brakes for the mot other than by riding it and seeing how well it stopped :)

i dont understand this post :? there is no'reason for refusal' for losing 40 kg force ..im a car tester so not 100% on bikes so here is the mot manual fo you to see for yourself .http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m1i00000101.htm
hth..on car tests the criteria for brake disc condition has just been clarified & the bottom line is the brake has to be bolloxed before it fails :o
whichway?

ok a bit more info,
the bike is put on rollers and a brake tester is used ,
I tried to hold the reading at 50kg but it wavered by 15-20kg.

therefore the mot tester had to provide an advisory notice of disc wear / runout.

i thought the mot tester was supposed to test the brakes :?:
ok, from what i can gather your mot tester is advising you of a brake fluctuation :?: so does the disc need cleaning :?: caliper/pistons/pads/ all free?what brand of pads you using? dont see why you would need another new disc....whichway?

You say you tried to hold the reading...............does this mean you were feathering the brake lever to try and do this? :?
Surely you need to hold the brake on as hard as possible and then see what reading you get ...If the wheel skids on the rollers though that doesn't mean the brake has failed.

And when was the last time the brake fluid was replaced - if it's old then it will be contaminated with air and water - not a good mix for braking efficiency ...

When I got my bike MOT'd the guy sat on it with the brake on and tried to push it with his feet. He then asked me if it stopped alright.
