Hi peeps,
I recently got a can from Albert666. It's lovely but the instructions that came with it contain things I have never done on the XB - basically anything ;)

I don't have a complete set of a torque wrench or Imperial tools either, got some sockets, but thats it.

So, would anyone be prepared to come over to Putney and help me put it on this weekend?

I would prefer to do it myself, but don't trust my abilities when it comes to the rear wheel axle etc.

Sarnies, beers/ tea etc provided.
Any takers?

Yeah but that bucket and clam can lift 2500kg-so an XB can shouldn't be an issue for it :!: lOl lOl

Yea, has anyone got one of them? I only have an Oxford rear centre stand, and can't work out how to safely get the XB onto it! ;)

Might have to end up going to Warr's! :o

I'm working all weekend otherwise I would give you a hand mate.

What do you need the paddock stand for?

You don't need to remove the rear wheel do you?

If you can get the bike and the exhaust upto white city Saturday afternoon about 2ish I could probably help you then. No paddock stand but I've got slings n chain blocks.

Very good of you to offer. The instructions recommend putting the bike on the stand to loosen the rear axle, but not remove it.
I might take you up on the 2pm Saturday offer.

My bad! It does say side stand not paddock stand

Still, I will have to make a trip to Halfords to pick up some AF tools. any suggestions? I will try to find a reasonably priced torque wrench, but what size drive is best? 1/4", 3/8" etc?
If anyone has a list of the tools required, I'd prefer to at least give it a go myself (having searched on here about the processes - doesn't seem an insurmountable job with the right tools).

you don't really need a torque wrench to do one job, besides if you use a torque wrench to do up the rear spindle you'll also need the appropiate spindle/axle key.
use the one in the tool kit with an adjustable spanner, just get someone with torque wrench calibrated hands to check it if your'e not sure

you will also need
3/8 allen key for rear spindle pinch bolt
14mm socket or equivilant imperial for belt tensioner and exhaust clamp
10mm or 11mm deep socket for exhaust straps
torx key or socket t 27 for all the torx head screws
10mm spanner to undo cable from original can
think thats about it

Thanks very much Al!
To be honest, it would be handy to have a torque wrench anyway in case further tinkering was needed (especially if I win the lottery and can get a proper stable ;) ).

I've got some old sockets tucked away and might have the relevant items, although I think a new allen key set is on the cards.

That's very reassuring to know. I'll try and start early to give myself enough time in case I get stuck. Might even get round to a 'How to...' if poss.

Ok, I spent the day working out what my toolbox needed to get the job done. I managed to find some interesting bits including an AF set of Allen keys which contains a 3/8" key for the pinch bolt, an adapter for a 1/4" drive torque wrench I have borrowed, and some deep sockets (3/8" drive) for the harder to reach nuts.

The one thing I cannot find is something to replace the 22mm (looks more like 7/8" to me) axle removal tool.
I remember seeing it in the tool kit I got with the bike (the emergency kit), but didn't think much of it as I couldn't work out what it was for  - I doubt I would have thrown it out, but I can't find it for the life of me and it is the one thing I need to begin the process.

I managed to find a photo of it which reminded me exactly what it was, thanks to Badweb!

So, when I find it or something similar, I can have a go at changing over to "Al's fruity steel beauty"! (which is still forlornly in my garage ATM :( )

BTW, today was very :sun: :ill:

I think Motrax sell them. If not, I've got some hex bar the right size. I could cut you a bit off.
