I always go for Tesco or Sainsburies fuel and put in super unleaded for my bikes (except the Buell) and Diesel in my cars. There are no Shell stations in Plymouth - all sold out to Texaco which is up to 5ppl dearer - I avoid like the plaque out of protest! But comments made here have got me thinking? Are these other fuells that much better? I've never noticed?

I put Shell Optimiax in a couple days after buying my bike. Ran rough at tickover, missed a couple of beats too. Manual says use RON95 = std unleaded, since then stuck with std unleaded for my Buell.

Usually I noticed a difference between Std and super unleaded, seems to be more responsive on the throttle, if only a little!

Maz recommends putting the best stuff in, although I haven't heard him say it about 08 bikes, but I don't see why it wouldn't apply. My bike definately runs better on optimax or similar. I used to work for Shell, and was also a petrol retailer. The Supermarkets use less and cheaper additives, and in my day they used a high percentage of Benzine in their fuel, (this is carsenogenic). I haven't been near the supermarkets for fuel since........

Nate, what is your wifes car (make and model) and what exactly was the code givenup by the ECU. As Paul1433 sort of said there are no codes for "your sensor is fu-ked". codes are at best a signpost as to the cause of a fault.
It would not by chance be a VW or Ford would it?

Yep. It's not simply a matter of plug-in-and-play! You need to look at (and be able to interpret) ECU data in real time... a fault code only means that the ECU is receiving a signal (from a given sensor) that is outside its understanding eg too high / low resistance / voltage or, in this case of a Lamda sensor, typically a lack of switching from high to low volts. It doesn't tell you why.
If you can see if the sensor voltage 'switching' when you raise the revs momentarily then there's not much wrong with it.
A lack of switching however does not necessarily mean a duff sensor... it could be dirty and therefore unable to 'see' oxygen (sooted up= bigger fuelling issue... eng temp sensor reading cold...), the wiring could be physically damaged or the fuelling so lean / rich that it's outside the switching parameters... more testing required!

Petrol here is all the same, no matter what garage you get it from, it's also the same price everywhere. I have a choice between 95 and 97. I usually splash out the extra penny on the 97 :P

Our ECM light on the car keeps flicking on and off. Last time it was in for a service the guy had a look, but reckoned we had such an archaic ECM that it didn't narrow it down any further than 'there's a fault'.

Guess a change of petrol might be worth a shot...
