2007 XB12Ss, 4.2K miles, front pads 60% worn

I have recently become aware of what look like fairly evenly spaced polished high spots appearing on the front disc surface and a slight bit of resonnance through the brake lever on light application.

Anyone know what's causing this :?: Am concerned about possible front bearing wear or warped disc but hoping it may just be a normal characteristic or build up of crud on the disc surface.

Would be grateful of any advice :old:

Replace pads with non-OEM types. Removing the deposit before swapping pads might be a good idea also.

What Gunter said, although I wouldn't worry to much about cleaning the deposits off, they'll come off as you use the brake.

mines been like that since about 4000 mls and it still got high spots on it also if you look closer say with a mag glass you will see craters in the disc . it still stops ok but judders cos its warped and should be a recall cos its a shit disc .the casting must av been done in willy wonkers chocy factory. dont know if theres a aftermarket one or not :askmaz: mines a xb12r on 06 plate nearly 9000 mls . just waitin for the belt to snap now cos it frayed .still best bike i ever add.

Disc could be warped but I doubt it.

Fit a set off Braking CM55, they will remove the deposits on the disc and are much better than EBC IMO.

Quick double-check, as I think it's time to change mine. Are these the ones you're referring to Maz?

I've never changed brake pads on anything more complex than a bicycle before. Any tips for doing the change (front) ?

Someone did a How To, check the section...

If Trojan doesn't have them, try here:

or PM Woz (Mr Geohannah)

Dont have a go yourself, just pay a Buell friendly mechanic or find someone on the forum, it's just not worth the risk for an hours labour.

Brake pads are pretty easy.
If you can do them on a bicycle you can do a motorbike.

Remember:
1) don't touch the levers when the pads are out else the pistons stick in and you may have a struggle getting them back in the calliper.
2) use copaslip on the back of the pads so they come out easy next time.

Or.... the deposits will contaminate and/or glaze the new pads....

would clean the deposits off with some brake cleaner and an abrasive pad but as someone already said If you don't know what your doing I wouldn't do It yourself.
I'm sure If you ask someone who lives close by would do It for you and at the same time show you how to do It meaning you can do It yourself next time.

Just noticed a pulsing from my front on my 1125R, 1100 miles and pretty sure this is the case.

Glad I read this thread as was just going to polish it up with some dash shine. ;)

Will order some pads and change them next week when the missus is away for a week, can play in the garage without nagging for 7 day in a row :)
