Post subject: Beware VAT free parts !
PostPosted: 13 Jun 2009 17:56
Just a word of warning for anybody that assumes that dealers all charge the same for parts - I've just ordered something for my V Rod from my local dealer and their list price was £116.53 - the same part from a sometimes mentioned VAT free Harley Davidson dealer's website quoted £215.11 ! :o  :?

You have been warned - it's always worth checking prices !

Why am I not suprised by this?

Anyway, it's only a matter of time before the authorities catch on and start enforcing VAT and import duties on these companies who sell from the Channel Islands, like they're supposed to.

Where will folks get their bits from then? The local dealer or independent?
Whoops, sorry! They've all gone bust because everyone's been buying from the CI....

Never used them myself - I just use the site to check prices - I'm too impatient to wait until it arrives and I've yet to find that the "savings" have been worth it - especially this time.

Tubbs, I know what you mean, by the time her Majesty's customs, the VAT man and ParcelFarce have had their cut I've found that things from the States can cost a lot more - it's just a pain that you cannot always source parts in the UK ...

i wanted something different for my blacked out streetglide, did'nt want anything that could be found in the hd parts book. found a guy in the usa who made me a 1 off combination of 2 of his custom finishes/engraving for a clutch inspection cover. the cost even with shipping and duty/vat/parcel farce rip off charge was cheaper than a hd 110 custom cover. some times it just pays to shop around.
