Am I confused? When you are talking about "the slide" on a CV, are you referring to the needle jet?

The slide is the alloy sleeve around the needle.
In a CV carb it has the diaphragm attached to the top of it.
Different cutouts on the slide effect up to about 1/3 throttle openings.

Yeah, and the size of the holes and the spring rate and pre-load will affect how quickly the slide opens in response to the butterfly demand (throttle) and engine demand (how quickly it spools up).

The standard slide is ally, the Thunderslide one is plastic. The standard needle had no adjustment on needle position, the Thunderslide has half a dozen clip positions and washers for intermediate positions.

Based on my experience comparing the Keihin (this particular one) and the Mikuni (on my particular bike), I would say this kit is quite good...

As most will know, I've stuck with my CV carb for the last 25,000 miles. It also has the Thunderslide kit fitted.
In 7 years, I have not touched it, except to remove it completely for other work on the engine. If it ain't broke.......
I still get 87 RWHP and yet can still get 200 miles from a full (Manta Ray) tank, if I don't cane it for too long.(not very often :twisted: ).
The only problem I get is Icing up in Winter, but I add the HD additive and this problem disappears. It only happens on really cold (Freezing) days that are damp as well.
I can live with that, as the Carb is stuck out in the open, taking all the weather.

Best performance upgrade for me (I have U.S. gearing) would be a lovely AST shock. :yup:

Looking at the instructions, the only difference between S1/S3/S3T, S1W and M2 Razorback / M2 Chubby are the main jets it comes with. My S1 (pre-Thunderstorm) liked a 195...

Do those CV carbs have a seperate pilot system? If so uping the pilot mix via the air screw or fuel screw which ever it uses, or upping the pilot jet usually sorts carb freezing.

When I was using a CV carb I found the HD winter additive stopped icing all together. I've a feeling the stuff they flog is just Methanol which can be had for about 50p/lit. The Dealer stuff many times more than that.
As an experiment, I got ran a bottle of it to the carb on my Methanol JAP motor and it ran perfectly. Can any chemists etc here see any problem using Methanol mix instead of the HD stuff :?:
