Obviously you will not be wanting to mix manufactures. .
Why not?
Conflicting shades of black?
I renew tyres as a matched pair these days but in "poorer times" I often mixed types, brands and stages-of-wear. It's not ideal but I seem to have survived the ordeal.
In very wet races we find mixing a front Avon with a rear Dunlop gives the best results....
.... some of you youngsters ought to have ridden on some of the early Jap tyres, Inoue were like assisted suicide...... taught you throttle control though.
Bryn Phillips, late of this Parish and ex Bridgestone employee (now Dunlop, I think
) used to come on this site and offer tyre advice, agrees with you 100%. Obviously common sense must prevail, but he confirmed that using tyres from the same manufacturer being the rule, was a bit of an urban myth. I must be a bit odd coz my rain tyres are both Bridgestones (but that was because they were very cheap)
Imnsho, all modern tyres are excellent, and wear out F+R about the same time. I usually go for price on the road bikes, the Road Attacks being my faves
Remember the early Jap discs? Some were chrome plated to stop them going rusty. Riding in the wet in those days was the ultimate adventure
