Why not?

Conflicting shades of black? ;)

I renew tyres as a matched pair these days but in "poorer times" I often mixed types, brands and stages-of-wear. It's not ideal but I seem to have survived the ordeal. :D

In very wet races we find mixing a front Avon with a rear Dunlop gives the best results....

.... some of you youngsters ought to have ridden on some of the early Jap tyres, Inoue were like assisted suicide...... taught you throttle control though. :old:

Bryn Phillips, late of this Parish and ex Bridgestone employee (now Dunlop, I think :? ) used to come on this site and offer tyre advice, agrees with you 100%. Obviously common sense must prevail, but he confirmed that using tyres from the same manufacturer being the rule, was a bit of an urban myth. I must be a bit odd coz my rain tyres are both Bridgestones (but that was because they were very cheap) lOl
Imnsho, all modern tyres are excellent, and wear out F+R about the same time. I usually go for price on the road bikes, the Road Attacks being my faves 8-)

Remember the early Jap discs? Some were chrome plated to stop them going rusty. Riding in the wet in those days was the ultimate adventure lOl

Hi & welcome

I have Dunlop RoadSmarts on my XB12 Lightning, having previously used Qualifiers and D207(?). RS felt good right away, warm up quickly and turn eagerly; secure in wet. Dual compound with more tread depth than most, 1500 - 2000 miles or so, rear still good. Recommended.

I put SportSmarts on another bike where mileage not so important and less torque to wrench the rubber.

Tyre pressures really important with all tyres I've experienced on the Lightning, particularly on front. Less than 38f/38r psi it feels horrible, reluctant to turn, then dropping in. Suspension next most important. Set 'em up proper and the world's your roundabout.

Have fun.

Michelin pilot Road 2CT.
Very good while cornering and a long durability. Warming up the tyres before 'playing' is a must. Otherwise the rear will do some strange things sometimes. :)
