got a broken crank case cover where the gear lever got ripped out of it. I now wonder if anyone knows, can it be repaired?

Prob cheaper to replace it? I think they are cast.. hard to fix.
Transmission fluid will be coming out of that hole if you don't get it sealed up nicely.

Prob easy to get a second hand one on eBay or whatever. Generally called "Primary Cover"

Anything can be fixed. It just depends on whether it is financially viable compared to replacement.

I'd say a new cover would be best, but have to agree with Mick, for small nidgery stuff, that Lumiweld works a treat. Use a big torch and keep the stainless 'scratcher' clean

Obviously, you have to degrease it meticulously and it's not very good if the casting has a magnesium content (but I expect HD were too cheap to add that to the mixture of Wensleydale ) as it melts before the rod.
You would also have to ensure that the jointing faces have not distorted. A piece of glass is good for this, but not from your bathroom.

I've seen a few of those sorts of holes repaired at track days using chemical metal. Comes in two tubes and you just mix it like araldite and spatula it on. Won't look very pretty, but it'll get you back on the road.

It can be made to look pretty with a bit of time and effort. We used to use a product called Belzona Emetal on mining machinery, it could be filed, tapped, drilled, machined et cetera.... the stuff you describe is a similar thing.
