I take on board all your comments about fuelling Pash. My ECM is supposed to be adaptive, but it does not seem to adapt for all irregularities. As I said before my Stealth feels strong, but slows the gases and the engine down. It's the surfeit of torque that makes riding it ok.

The point is that big throttle openings can result in mucho noise for not as much go as you'd expect. At other times idling along in low gear in town, a big handful of throttle will see the bike shoot off like a rocket. I think this is because at the right speed and the right throttle opening, the gases have had time to flow around those big steps in the exhaust.

The reading I did was from web sites on performance silencers and high performance harley exhausts. A good US Co.(don't remember which) does a good site explaining pipe diameter and more important collectors for manifolds. The best power would appear to come from one piece or complete exhaust systems. People are so obsessed with flashy new cans, they may be overlooking a potential XB weakness where the headers meet the can?

Regardless of the design of the exhaust you have, the secret to a blissful ride is to match the fuelling to the exhaust. Matching the exhaust to the fuelling is a bit like putting the cart before the horse… Don’t be put off trying them though…

I am quite happy to help you fix the fuelling. Give me a couple of months or so as I have a few incomplete projects.

I dont know about the quality of the Albert as I have never seen one. The quality of the Stealth, or at least the one I had, was VERY good and given the price, over build time/quality materials, he is not making much out of them. But here is the rub.

A Buell XB OEM can sounds crap, rusts and is heavy. Better sound is good as is a lighter can but you wont gain any, or micro amounts, of extra power with a aftermarket can. A linear power output, over the rev range, with no flat spots, a stable idle and no poping/over run is the best you will get out of an XB because of the type of engine.

I sometimes think that people are trying to make a "silk purse" out of a "sows ear" but a Buell is no Pig . It is, on the other hand, a bike built for what does best and thats torque and corners.

If you like being loud then just shout a lot. Its a much cheaper thing to do and you might be able to get a spot in TV.

I sometimes think that people are trying to make a "silk purse" out of a "sows ear" but a Buell is no Pig . It is, on the other hand, a bike built for what does best and thats torque and corners.


My XBs fuelling seems to be ok, excellent at low speed, a consistently around 60mpg on my ride outs whichever pipe is fitted and plugs look ok.

The beauty of a sows ear is that you can always improve it a bit! My Stealth is a very good bit of kit for the money, but on the '9' version it is not perfect in my view due to the size of inlet flange fitted. My tubbs modified can is also good value.
Due to a hunch I have I merely want to tweak entry to these cans and the header outlet of my XB where the makers left off.

...That and the piggin rain forcast means I won't be riding anywhere soon anyway!

Its an odd thing but I need something like a Buell. I am an a engineer and need something to work on to make it better. For me, but understand if not for all, it is part of the fun of a bike.

The mix of crude mechanical engineering, high tech electronics, design faults, variable build quality and the "black art" of a Buell works for me.

Mind you I am not very sane at the best of times .

Received my Albert can yesterday and well chwffed as you Gogs say.
The man is a wizard,plug and play easy for a bike dummy like me.
Tailtidy over winter and some more toys and i will be a pig in shit.

Anyway here some pics doesn't sound like a sawing machine no more.





Just a word of thanks to ukbeg peeples for all the info and contacts,has made my first 5 months intro to Buells a fantastic enjoyable experience and yes i lov the the bike even if its only a xb.
