YGH, it was obviously not secure enough
Feedback from the plod looking after the report (who I must say have been helpful) is that whilst the former trick was the white van scenario, lately the gangs have been breaking locks/security and with a second stolen bike towing them away. He mentioned this is probably 90% of the cases lately within his area, and the van scenario is reducing in numbers due to CCTV and plate recognition within the city (not sure why the bike they ride up on doesn't show up this way as well, but I guess they can de-plate it or run the risk that they can get away a little easier on another bike rather than a van).
In any case, I did not have anything in the bay where I was parking to chain to (which I agree is probably the closest you'll get to disrupting the thieves), so I guess I have a lesson on that front: to be very picky about where I park and how it is secured.
I still hold some hope, but it is diminishing. I am now thinking that it seems if you have ANYTHING, all you do is run the risk of someone taking it away from you, regardless of what you do to try and protect it.
I am undoubtedly a huge Buell enthusiast (I loved that bike); and should the highlight of my day not find it's way back, I'm going to buy a Buell poster for my wall, and cartwheel the 10 miles to work everyday in it's memory. No-one can take that away from me.
Rant over.
