My money is on it being some wanker who is building a 'chop'
The only useful bit of the bike is the engine.
Not saying that anyone who rides a chop is a wanker, just that the swear filter wouldn`t allow me to type C*NT ;)

YGH, it was obviously not secure enough

Feedback from the plod looking after the report (who I must say have been helpful) is that whilst the former trick was the white van scenario, lately the gangs have been breaking locks/security and with a second stolen bike towing them away. He mentioned this is probably 90% of the cases lately within his area, and the van scenario is reducing in numbers due to CCTV and plate recognition within the city (not sure why the bike they ride up on doesn't show up this way as well, but I guess they can de-plate it or run the risk that they can get away a little easier on another bike rather than a van).

In any case, I did not have anything in the bay where I was parking to chain to (which I agree is probably the closest you'll get to disrupting the thieves), so I guess I have a lesson on that front: to be very picky about where I park and how it is secured.

I still hold some hope, but it is diminishing. I am now thinking that it seems if you have ANYTHING, all you do is run the risk of someone taking it away from you, regardless of what you do to try and protect it.

I am undoubtedly a huge Buell enthusiast (I loved that bike); and should the highlight of my day not find it's way back, I'm going to buy a Buell poster for my wall, and cartwheel the 10 miles to work everyday in it's memory. No-one can take that away from me.

Rant over.

I fell in love with a girl in the same ward my mate was in at Worksop hospital, she had GSOH on a sign on her bed, it was three weeks later when I realised it meant 'Got syphillis on holiday.....'

I am sure that it does happen but this is the first time that I have heard of an XB being stolen.
I cant get insurance, in my worst in the country area, on any big bike without a alarm/garage but can with a Buell. Its one of the reasons I bought it.

A lot of UK bikes are being bought up, from people outside of the UK, at the moment because they are cheaper here. Buells are very well liked in Germany for instance.

It does sound a bit odd. Most bikers dont know a Buell and dought a joy rider would, like a Gixxer or R1, get any kuddos out of it. The parts are not worth the time apart from the engine and unlike a Busa or Blade engine it is of limited use IE only on a HD.

With the demise of Buell, and parts being in short supply, I would have thought that Buells are now very "nickable", have you seen what some breakers are charging on Ebay these days ?

Although, with healthy demand for them on the continent, the bike may already be in Gemany ...  :(

No consolation I know, but at least you didn't have to pay to park as you would have had to in Westminster. I have no issue on paying to park if they offer security facilities but they take the piss, IIRC, one of their justifications for charging was to offer ground anchors etc, but to quote their website -

Quote:
What initial changes were made to motorcycle parking in Westminster and what further changes have recently been made?

Initial Changes

•Prior to the start of the scheme in August 2008, we increased the number of dedicated spaces for motorcycles by 44% to approx 6,550 spaces (approx 6,150 on-street and 400 off-street).
Security devices were installed both prior to and since the commencement of charging. To date 89 devices have been installed (45 Sheffield Stands and 44 ground anchors) at 18 locations.

•Charging for dedicated motorcycle bays was introduced in August 2008. This introduced the following charges: £1.50 daily charge; £5 weekly charge; £20 monthly; £50 quarterly; and £150 yearly charge. Payment of the charge allows a motorcycle to park in and move to any motorcycle bay within the city.

89 devices fitted from 6,550 spaces - that's less than 1.5% ! Hardly justification of charging for the priviledge of parking ...

... and, at the end of the day, would it have made a difference ? It could have well have been stolen to order, and as Buells are fairly rare it would have been unlikely that thay would have looked for another if it had been chained up.

With Westminster its just a way of making money. All there "talk" is just flannel to cover this up. The motorist "cash cow" is drying up and they need to invent ever more clever ways of bleeding money from us .

If people are now nicking Buells, for parts, thats going to be a right pain in the arse.

No it's not probably get parts faster than HD dealers. Wouldn't suprise me if it was HD stealing the bikes back for parts.
