 Post subject: 1125 rear brake

Like everyone else I had heard of the occurences of the 1125R rear brake peddle pivot shaft siezure so when I took delivery of my 09 bike in Nov 08 one of the first jobs was to copa slip the pivot.

I was surprised to find the rear brkae dragging when pushing the bike out of the garage on Saturday, turned out that the pads were sticking in the reart calliper, once cleaned up all was OK. This is on a bike that is checked over thoroughily quite often.

What a stupid design idea to locate the rear calliper where it is going to collect all the road crap, anyone else had this problem?

Never had an issue with the Firebolt

All I know is I go through rear pads at a phenominal rate, dont last five minutes...never noticed any sticking though

Silly question but the piston in the calliper isn't seizing is it ... ? is the seal ok .. ?

Nope, everything cleaned (I'm a bit anal about clean calipers) and it slides lovely 8-)

..........and it gets fish regularly lOl

No big deal though, it's just my other bikes hardly wear at all :? My boot is nowhere near it either. A good brake though, it works just as I like it :yup:

Only observation I have on the back brake in the past few days as a new owner is 'Brake?' Seems to be there for show more than anything else.

Yep, just the way I like it ! It is a "sports bike" after all, not a cruiser, as long as it will hold the bike at the lights then that's fine by me - although it's also handy for a little controlled braking into the bends.

Having said that, the rear brake on my 2010 CR is definitely more wooden than my 2008 R, but it may be down to the riding position and the fact that I have less movement in my right leg due to an accident a few years ago.

I'm on my 4th set of front pads and still on the original back ones, although they could really do with changing soon. Bikes done 12k miles, 6 track days, 2 trips to the nurburgring (totalling 26 laps). The thing I noticed bout the front pads is, manual says to change them when the braking material gets down to 2mm, but they only start off with less than 4mm.

I tend to only use the back brake for slow speed stuff and filtering.

its the first time on a bike that Ive had to change the rear pads first before changing the front (well :maz: changed it for me)- though the braking effectiveness of the caliper I have no issues with and can quite easily lock the rear up when coming to a hault, I clean the calipers and disks on every bike wash last with brake cleaner putting rags around the wheels .
