The drive belt on my 09 Ully has snapped, only done just under 8K on it & the bike is still in warranty.

I'm waiting for Lincoln HD to see if Harley will pay for it under warranty. Should I also complain to HD UK??

That is unlucky - hope you get it sorted soon. It's also slightly unsettling for me as I'm about to embark on a trip to the Nurburgring on a bike with, erm, just over 8K miles on it!! I'm taking a spare belt and the tools I need just in case the worst should happen, though still don't fancy doing this at the side of the road. Fingers crossed I won't need to, as the job is made just that bit more annoying on the XT by the luggage rack attachment to the right foot hanger, which is a right bugger to get to.

Question for you. Are there any telltale signs on the sprockets which might indicate something having gotten between the sprockets and the belt? The last time I had my rear wheel off I noticed evenly spaced small chips on sprockets teeth. No idea how they got there. I attacked them with wet-and-dry to ensure no sharp edges.

I've not properly looked at the sprocket yet, I was too sweating from pushing the bike half a mile home. I did see what looked like one chip. But I have a freespirits tensioner fitted so a stone should just pass through

Told by my dealer that belt should cover 25K. Mind you they are full of bullshit and will not take back for a full service. 1125r owner.

I was talking to a fella yesterday down the local bike cafe on an X1
I noticed he had a new belt fitted and asked him about it.
Yep it had snapped and according to him told them there was no way he was going to pay £180 plus labour to have it fitted,and it shouldn't have snapped at 12k in the first place.
In the end he said he paid £60 and they did it as a goodwill gesture.

Saw a 2010 XB last Saturday with the lower belt guards removed (to look cool?).
No spring tensioner either, but the owner wasn't around to tell!

I suppose he was in the middle of deep cleaning, but had to nip into town for wifey!

Well Lincoln HD have done themselves proud. It has been agreed that it will be replaced on warranty.

Buell assist (Have 4 days left of membership) have already picked up my bike & taken it to them

Mine, on a 06 Uly, went the same way as your pic at 7.5k and 14k. Clean break and no belt damage. It now has the last belt version, "F", which is said to be better.

I PM'd Steve from BB, he told me that the belt is covered in the 2 year warranty anyway

According to Lincoln Harley, I also need new pullies, it looks like something has got between the belt & also damaged every 5th tooth on the pullies.

Thank fully the warranty will also cover this

Interesting - by pulleys I'm assuming you mean sprockets? I had the same when I last took my wheel off and assumed it was stone damage so wouldn't be covered by warranty. Did Lincoln HD say what might have caused that and why it was a warranty job?

They it could be a stone.

HD's 2 year Warranty cover your belt ect during the warranty period, but you must have all the belt guards on to qualify, so I've read 7 been told.

Therefore providing you have all yur guards on you should of got them replaced under warranty
