Hi, I'm new to the forum so go easy... I have a 2001 X1 which I want to do the odd track day and hillclimb on next year. I have read through some of the old posts and my question is, the Buell "race" ECU's and the early Power Commander units, are they worth trying to find and fit or is there a modern alternative to manage the fuel injection / timing?
Is the 2-1/2" collector exhaust a good idea?
I can see the benefit of the lower gearing to US spec so I will be looking for a set.
I have not had this particular bike long so I will give it a complete service but are there any things that I should do to begin with? It is standard apart from a early Power Commander, (no idea what map,) straight through exhaust with a 2" header and a Forcewinder air filter. It runs rough from cold, the previous owner had fitted a new Temp Sender and a air leak on the exhaust makes it pop and bang but is easily fixed. Its a low mileage, (under 12K) bike and looks like it has been looked after but before going too far with it I want to make sure that it is giving its best and any performance improving parts are found before getting too excited with big bores etc. Has anyone out there got experience with racing an X1? Thanks.

yeah, race headers are a better one, as is the full race system, think ("peanuts-in-rockinghorse-shit-to-find)

just a thought GM maybe Albert could make a set :yup:

worth checking the oil pump drive gear on the crank pinion shaft, drop the oil pump and have a look in the hole, old ones were steel which wear then fracture, new ones are bronze (part number 26391-06)
