Hi, I'm looking for a 28 TOOTH engine pulley (pref alloy) to fit X1... I believe other models would fit

I have no experience of these guys but they may be able to help with light weight option - price seems reasonable - I am looking for 27T :D

BDL aluminium drive pulleys are very much lighter than OE and are supposed to give the output drive bearing an easier life. My boss uses one on his S1W.
They do not make a 27, only 28, 29 & 30, IIRC.

Why is that then oh tall one? Assuming all things equal (lubrication etc.), surely the bearing life is only a function of how much load you put on it, i.e. how tight the belt is and how free the throttle hand is... Or have I missed something?

Aluminium front pulleys are a waste of dosh IMO........they wear out real quick :idea:

We ran a Baker item on the race bike and it showed excessive wear surprisingly early........G2 runs one and it's fubarred, just like the rest of his bike :twisted:

I have customers who are on their 3rd rear pulley with the OEM steel front still looking good.

The reason I didn't replace my worn ally pulley with another, was because I didn't like how the teeth didn't run the width of the pulley.
I got the steel one that does run the full width-and is still lighter than standard ;)

The other option is drill and lathe the original pulley to lose weight.
I was amazed how much weight you can actually shed from a standard pulley with a bit of judicious trimming :)

Take it to a local machine shop ?
I took a new pulley to my local and had it narrowed and 8 holes drilled in the flat between the inner and outer teeth and also skimmed the centre section to half its original thickness for 20 quid :D

Not a daft question..
Some say it isnt important, I would say yes make sure its fairly balanced as its a big lump to be spinning out of balance hung on the end of the output shaft.
But any good machine shop using a lathe wont throw the balance out :)
