I really should stop looking at this thread....

I've been thinking about a second bike for a while - something to have a bit of fun on.

I miss my XB12S.. but £££ don't stretch that far at present.

Go on - someone read me the riot act and tell me why a 1999 X1 is way better than a 200x XB12S...

Plus this is in Tadley - a brick chuck from my place in Newbury....

I hear my wallet quietly crying....

at the risk of hijacking dorskes thread:-

trapper - i see you have a victory - i tried a couple of different ones before arriving in buelldom - does yours also vibrate your feet off the footpegs when you get over a ton ?

i found the 8-ball was the single scariest thing i have ever ridden - every time i came to a corner i wanted to stop, get off and push it round - the dealership said 'you get used to that'. i decided i didnt want to get used to it.

Hi Ant,
I am sure we will both be hit on the nose and moved by an administrator...

Mine is a 2009 Vegas 8 Ball (with the earlier 100 cu inch engine and the rounded headlamp).

You do get used to the riding style quite quickly - if you want scary - try a Victory Hammer with the 280 rear. Strangest cornering experience - but there's one at Blade in Swindon with the pegs worn down - if you are feeling so inclined, you can be so inclined!

At 100 mph (on a private road, officer! ) it's ok. But it's a naked cruiser and it's happier at 70-80 mph. I have the touring seats (rider and pillion fitted) so it's very comfy. It vibrates - but then its a 1634cc V twin. If I wanted smooth, I'd have bought an IL4! ;-)

I did try it with one of Victory's own screens - it was a very unpleasant experience with weird turbulence effects. I am usually the first in the queue when it comes to volunteering to be sucked off - but not at 70mph on an A road through Wiltshire....

Hi Trapper!

Maybe you would like to drop by in Tadley, since it's really close to Newbury. Just to have a look at it, have a cup of tea and .....hear it run. I'm sure you'll love it! The sound is pretty deep and bassy but most of all LOUD. It's sounds more like a Harley than my Harley........ 8-)

We are home all weekend. (No strings attached of course)

See you

dorske: are you coming along on the x1 on wednesday ( 9th ) ??

i always fancied an X1, but for some reason ended up with a Uly, which is still the nicest thing i have ever owned/ridden, in terms of the grin factor.

complete lack of chrome means it tends to get used thru the winter whereas my old california just sits quietly in the corner of the garage coz it takes too much cleaning when you use it at this time of year - daft really coz it was bought as a cheap runabout.

anyone want a cheap ( 1500 g.b.p. ovno ) california 1100i so i can buy a nice X1 ?

andy: er yes - it was the hammer i tested ( 300 section rear tyre = insane ): getting confused in my old age. the other one i tried was a vegas, in many ways quite nice but they still dont go round corners - at least not at the same speed that i do; the mrs was petrified within a couple of miles. i was really surprised how much it vibrated for what is a relatively new engine and chassis, considering i never notice the vibes on the buell with its 55 year old lump. you would put up with it on a hard tail or something you knocked up in the shed, but i would have expected a modern manufacturer to have dealt with primary vibes a bit better.

Hi Ant69! Nope, I can't ride the bike, cause it has no registration at the moment. And I rather not ride it anymore while I'm trying to sell it.

See you wednesday!

Bump! Now fully MOT'd. Registration to follow tomorrow (I believe?). So it'll have a numberplate and tax within the next two weeks. So, get your bids in early for a bit of a discount or it'll go on eBay to the great unwashed! lOl

Might be an idea to change the thread title to 1999, to avoid confusing any prospective buyers :)

....to cheap for you?

This bike is original, no modifications what soever. I am the third owner. The first owner only had the bike for half a year, the second owner was a lady who I actually met. I bought the bike with 8000 km (4970 miles). Considering all of this, it is a very good bike which has not been abused AT ALL.

Never had major issues; no leaks, nothing.

So please keep your comments for yourself and make me a good offer :yup:
