Right my 1125r bike is going on a road trip from Manchester to B/Bear - and as I have never transported a bike in a transit van before I would like a few pointers please. The van will be a hire van so will not be able to make any mods to the van.

If you can, borrow one of the wheel chock type stands that you roll the bike into and it stands the bike upright ...then use ratchet straps in conjunction with one of the straps that has sleeves to go over the handle bar and use this to pull the front of the bike forward and down(most vans have points to fasten straps to ).
Then another couple of straps either side at the rear to old the rear end secure.

I use one of those front wheel devices that capture the bike. Two ratchet straps pulling the bike forward, around pillion pgs ,or rear sub frame, keep it very secure. If you use two staps at the front, don't compress the forks too much, a bit of (spilt) plastic pipe around the sliders stops this compression. You will need another couple of straps at the rear pulling the bike forward into something hard will stop the bike moving back and forwards when you accelerate or brake.
Don't tell your insurance company, the bastards won't cover you if you've got a fuel container on board I asked then if Plumbers were uninsured if they carried a gas torch, or if a spare fuel container was carried in the vehicle etc. They gave up in the end and said it was ok for me to carry a hot air balloon in the back (I don't btw - just thought I'd waste their time going through a list ridiculous items ) even though they have fekin huge propane tanks for the burners

I picked a bike up via a hire van company. By the time I added the fuel to the hire cost, a whole days faffing about, it was cheaper to get it transported via a reputable company at £1p/mile. It also means their insurance covers any accident or damage en route.

Pretty much all vans have conveniently tie down points inside. I use a wooden ramp to load, and then put the bike on the stand with the front wheel touching the bulkhead. Two ratchet straps on the top of the bars at the front, and then two at he back, wherever you can. Both pulling against the other pair. Don't skimp on straps, use decent ones and they will last for ages.

Psycho has a point, unless u have a very cheap van hire; did u enquire how much it would be to use a reputable transport co. ?

physio may have apoint and it may be cheaper to go down that route but i would rather deliver the bike in person to the guys & gals at bb. So far the cheapest i can get a van for which ive seen is £90 a weekend or i could get a bike trailer which is £20 aday
