My 2000 M2 seat unit near the rear fixing holes has started splitting through vibration, is it made of surlyn like the xb's.

Has anybody found a glue or a way of sorting this problem out.

Thanks

Same thing happened with mine... I tried gluing it but it didn't work that well, so then I left it coz I thought it can't go anywhere anyway apart from just wobble up and down a bit more than usual at the back... Now it's got a split on the outside on the right side, near the lowest point of the curve of it... I suppose that bit must have been flapping in and out while the back was wobbling up and down :?

So there's my mistake if anyone wants to learn from it, coz I didn't in time :yc:

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I have been looking on the net about surlyn and it states that it can be bonded using hotmelt. I will give that a go first. I did think of trying fibre glass matting and resin on the inside to strengthen it. ( not sure if it will bond to the plastic though)I expect all these solutions have been tried before!

Gusm2. If this fails I may well be in touch. Thanks

Thanks everybody

Not entirely sure mate......some sort of GRP ?

The only tubers that ever got surlyn were X1's from 2001 (yellow 2000 model had a surlyn tank cover)

we use these products for bonding things to glassfibre at our works
ie metal to glass fibre etc
fc 40 is our most chosen method sticks like shit and remains slightly pliable
you will however need something like s/s strip or something to stick to it from the rear behind it

also adekit 2 part epoxy but no give in it stays solid

I was riding along yesterday and felt something move past my right inner thigh  ... looked in the mirror and I could see summat bouncing in the road :? ... Turned out it was a piece of the side/tail plastic that cracked off just by the battery

At least I managed to collect it without incident and it hadn't been flattened by anything... Blimey, there isn't half a lot of heat coming up off that rear cylinder now tho, it's roast veg time :ill:
