Looking at pulling the original exhaust silencer off my '08 XB12XT. Just wondering if I will need any new seals or anything when it comes to putting it back on ???

Norice its getting a bit rusty looking so needs a coat of high temp paint I think, then I'll be putting it back on.

Any other tips welcome.

Looking at the service manual it says I need to use a new torca clamp (downpipe to silencer connection) and a new front strap on the silencer - is this really necessary ????

Eric.

Usual procedure is to remove it, watch it crumble into rust/dust in your hands, and replace it with your can of choice. My choice was a Remus, which works beautifully. Ask anyone who followed me round Donegal earlier this month ... lOl

If my original crumbles then I like the look of a TorqueHammer from Twin !

Got the exhaust off.

detting at the back strap nuts was tough and I had to remove the FS tensioner...and to do that I had to loosen the rear axle and right hand foot rest support etc etc......

Bloody thing is becoming a bigger job than I thought....

Got it off anyway.

Some flakey rust on the bottom and on the front and back....overall not too bad....still plenty of metal..still solid....

Wire brushed and scraped virgoursly (spelling) and then used locktite rust treatment all over...will sand lightly and put on a couple of coats of high temp mat black paint.

Should keep me out of trouble for a while till I make a jump for a new ss silencer.

Will post up some pics when I get time.

Eric.

Ok, here's the offending pics....didnt manage to get after pics but suffice to say it was a lot smoother and black all over.....had a good spin on it then to burn it on..hopefully will last a while.....

Used the same strap and clamp..seemed ok...torqued the clamp to the specified torque but only tightened the front strap till I thought it was ok.

The can of my 08 Uly was just as bad. I took mine off about 3 months ago and sadly it looks just as bad. The VHT paint took to the centre of the exhaust but either end and underneath are fooked again.
Hopefully I will be ordering my Albert can near the end of this month. Unless my TV or fridge pack in.

Ditto, I painted mine during the winter, seems to holding up so far.
I will definitely be in the market for an Albert Can in the future. No rust and a
fraction of the weight, sounds good to me.
The one worry I have is will I have to reprogramme the ECM. I have an 06 Uly
and I don't know it relearns when you change the exhaust.

I have an Albert reverso, it belongs to him, I owe him a map as I have some gibbons to help me make one. I too own an 06 Uly.

That was my concern, will my 80 Uly need a remap or will it sort itself?
I believe it will sort itself. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
