 Post subject: 1125 stator replacement
PostPosted: 19 Jun 2011 18:31
New stator fitted today charging system seems as good as new. So can somebody please enlighten me?

1/ Is another failure likely with the recall harness fitted?

2/ I'm still running high charging temperatures with an ambient temp of mid 40's and I'm bringing the bike back to UK soon, what charging temps are you experiencing in normal use there?

Just for my info please as I'm unsure whether to run the bike here as I don't wanna degrade a new stator

If you're referring to charging voltages my CR generally runs between 13.7 and 14.3 volts depending on revs - it has the extra loom fitted.

Thanks for that and yeah the voltages are useful but on the same clock selection there is a CT display, mine generally runs between 80 and 90 degrees. Has anybody noticed their normal charging temperature?

I may be wrong... but isn't it likely that 'CT' refers to Coolant Temperature?...
I've certainly never heard of any reference to Charging Temperature before.... :?

Yep, on the 1125 bikes CT stands for Coolant Temperature - this has no bearing on the charging system ...

Guys whatever it stands for when yer stator is on its way out (as I previously explained in great detail!) 70 is good for 14 volts 80 to 90 is a drop to mid 13's and above 90 we are down to 12. That equation works for me irrespective of what is getting hot so please what temp are you guys running at?

I would say that the ideal coolant temp with regards for performance and emissions etc will be in the low to mid nineties anyway................engines do not like to run too cool...........also the main reason the system is pressurised is to increase the boiling point to allow the temps to be raised .....also it is one of the reasons for using antifreeze as one of it's properties is to raise the boiling point of the coolant.
So an engine running at around 90 shouldn't be affecting the charge voltage.

You can step back to whatever you want, alone, with an attitude like that, Buster.
Lots of people here trying to help you... :headbang:

YES, I would say so, unless they have increased the diameter of the windings or put current limiting somewhere in the system.

Nobody knows what charging temps they are seeing cos they are not measured, besides, where would you measure it? As for coolant temperatures, IIRC, my 1125 used to run between 88 and 92 when warm which is around about the thermostat opening temperature, which is more or less the same for any watercooled engine, cars and bikes alike. If you were running the engine too hot, I am sure the IC would tell you. As for the best temperature, the 1125s I have seen run on the dyno make more power at 92 than 88 deg C.

As for your charging capability to coolant temp relationship, they will be related, but only loosely. You really want the oil temperature as the stator runs in oil, the hotter the oil, the more resistance in the windings and the lower the current it can supply. If the equation of coolant temp against battery voltage works for you, then great...

Mr Pash thankyou very much and my apologies for corrallating the temperature incorrectly. Must have been my imagination when I got a battery light in traffic and put two and two together. Well spotted everybody!

Not saying your correlation is not real, just saying it is loose. Sounds like your bike is fooked though. Based on the number of problems you have had with it, surprised you still want to keep it. If I was you, I would have sold it on by now and bought an RC-8...

Pash you just hit the nail on the head that has gotta be the most sensible thing I ever heard on here...nobody wants to buy it mate and who in their right mind would ride one home from Saudi Arabia? I consider it everyday and then it dawns on me will it get me out of the city limits without an issue?
