Tony - thanks for your donation.
We'll post details about the rest of the trip in due course but as reaching the Arctic Circle was the fund-raising part of the journey we wanted to post these first.
We would like to thank Timo (JinX) for riding over from Finland on his XB12S Lightning to join us for a couple days. It made all the difference to have another Buell there.
Saturday 21st May 2011.
Arctic Circle visitor centre, Saltfjellet Plateau, Norway.
Latitude: 66 degrees, 33 minutes.
Altitude: 680 metres / 2,244 feet.
Mileage so far: 1,670 miles. We'd hoped for some snow at the Arctic Circle and weren't disappointed. The temperature at the visitor centre was minus 0.5 degrees centigrade with a cold, blustery wind and sleety rain. The staff at the centre said we were the first motorcyclists to visit them this year. This fact, combined with the snowy conditions, helped to give us a great sense of achievement and all three of us were buzzing.
The ride across the Saltfjellet Plateau was something else with snow all around us. Thankfully highway E6 had been heavily gritted and was clear. I would have loved to stop and take more pictures of this wilderness but being a wimp there was no way I was stopping and letting go of those heated grips
.....
Mission accomplished - Timo and Jane with the Buells and our banner:
Jane and 'Barney', her beloved Moto Guzzi 750. Jane is the only female rider to successfully complete all three UKBEG Buell Challenges and together they make an unstoppable team
....
We expected snow, but not quite this deep.....
After the obligatory pictures had been taken we retired to the warm and cosy restaurant for lunch....
It will be a few weeks before we know exactly how much this years UKBEG Buell Challenge has raised for Em's Charity but it will be in excess of £1,000.
