I'm especially sorry to see this happen because I have some really good mates there. It's been on the cards for a while and they are confident that there will be jobs for them when another dealership opens in the area but that can take time.......years in some cases :(

Have to say I'm in full agreement with the comments about independent enthusiast dealers whether they are franchised or not :yup: Maybe I'm biased lOl

Manchester was the UK's largest H-D dealership and that was their downfall..... the building is huge (+2 storeys) and located in a very expensive area ie. in the present climate, they just couldn't generate enough revenue to cover the vast overheads.
Surprising they didn't just downsize then. What matters is the people - not the building. After all - who in their right mind would otherwise go to a Dukinfield?

- btw Maz - you need to have a word with Wikipedia - you're not on their famous persons list. ;)

I would imagine that when you sign a contract with the devil there are obligations that you have to fulfil - showroom size being one of them ! And if you've commited yourself to a lease on a property it may not be so easy to get rid of it in these tight times.

Amsterdam and Rotterdam 'lost' their dealerships, but Antwerp got a brand new one.

Stopped into a KTM dealer today - crappy metal shed of a building, some great bikes (hope you like orange).

I agree it's all about the personnel, not the premises. But that clearly is not hte "HD Way" (i.e., the Wankdell way).

I have a friend that has a KTM dealership - originally they were going to sell Harleys but he said that the startup costs were horrendous - so I can't see us getting any new HD dealers in the near future as it costs too much.

Trouble is our hands are tied - there aren't many places to get Buell parts except from Harley Davidson dealers - and if they're all going out of business ...

I'm now wondering if I should have bought an RC8 instead of the 1125R ... :ill:

Malaga H-D are now no more as is H-D in San Pedro De Alcantara (Marbella) - the later are Ferrari/Rolls dealers so were useless anyway......Nearest for me if I need to use one is Cadiz, a fair 'ol treck. Luckily there is a good non-franchised H-D workshop nearbye :sun:

Thankfully Tubers are (as are Guzzis) tractors. The nearest non-franchised tractor workshop is about 6 feet away from this PC. :4roz:
