Quick question...

I had the seat off the Uly today and was looking at the 2 main subrame pieces attached to the triple-tail tail-light housing.. and it occurred to me...

If I removed the triple-tail rear light housing, doesn't that effectively leave me with a SS/STT subframe?

If so, it might save me buying new subframe/seat-rails and mean just finding a tail-piece, no?

(Then wait til a shorter S/SX subframe comes along to do my preferred shorter tail conversion at a later stage)

Dude it's been 2 days already!! Show us the results!

P.s. I noticed that you work around the corner form me (looked you up on Linkedin after seeing your site, I'm not a stalker :) )
I might come check it out over a lunch break if you also ride to work

Sure any time :yup:


I need a free saturday to strip the back end and work out what I need to get done to make the rails fit.

Then get them to a fabricator and have any work/fettling done.

Then another free saturday to fit it all again.

Coating wheels (bearing puller set arrived today!), painting plastics (still after a flyscreen) and decals (design and then having them made up) all need doign too.

It'll be a few weeks yet :(

Right,

Had the bike in bits this morning to replace the drive belt so I decided to remove the right-hand subframe to see how/if the Lightning subframe will fit.

As you can see it's gonna be a LOT shorter :D

I bolted up the bottom fixing and it makes it look like the tip fixing is a bit out:

However it might be sitting a little angled as I didn't really tighten it up fully.

Once the whole subframe is assembled (both sides and the tail centre section) I'll need to recheck it as I'm sure it'll make the subframe sit differently.

Anyhoo, it looks like it'll be a bit of a job for a fabricator to 'adjust' the upper mounting position - probably either bending or cutting/welding it to it's new position - not a job for me in either case.

Just need that tail piece...

i would be inclined to fabricate a union between the two pieces rather than mucking about with the subframe itself. BUT i am not an engineer so dont listen to me.
