Well, as a relative newbie I am very proud to be able to contribute to the technical forum at blast - I have the answer!

I took Helena's ('Zelda') XB12SCG (named Lucifer) in to Guildford HD for the castration kit to be fitted this morning. They took a bit longer than expected on this job….but only because they have never restricted a Buell before :? .

The kit comprises a replacement cable bracket, replacement throttle cam a nyloc nut and a fixing screw. Restriction is simply the amount the throttle valve is allowed to open so it’s the same as riding the unrestricted bike…until you grab a handful to overtake or wheelie.

In practice, it felt OK on the single carriageways and the traffic was holding me back more than the restrictor. When I did get to open the taps, I noticed how little the throttle moves before it comes to an abrupt stop. There is still loads of torque and the good thing is that a relative novice can safely wind open the throttle without overcooking it.

When I got onto the dual carriageway, I gave it the berries and it responded well but has nothing like the acceleration it had before. It will comfortably run at 80 plus a bit but I was expecting a little more. It's still absolutely lovely at 2,000-3,000rpm in top, rolling on and off the throttle around twisty roads in 'criusing' mode. It’s a good safe way for Helena to get to know this bike because even with my 29 years of riding behind me, I respect this bike enough to know it could spit me off if I get it wrong.

DIY de-restriction is straightforward, too :yup: .

I hope this helps.

Jon
