Have you ever owned an XB?

I bought the wife one just after I bought the 1125.

The XB now resides in Germany, the 1125 is parked outside with over 20,000 miles on it.

Tried the factory settings both street and race. New tyres and wheel bearings, pressures as per manual.
Don't get me wrong it's Ok 90% of the time but slaps about like a 350LC on steroids when you push it.
Guess that's a trait of the short wheelbase / steering geometry.

Mate of mine is Tom Sykes mechanic. I'll let him have a ride on it when they get back from Portugal.

Did it break down every time you wanted to ride it?

Were the servicing costs more?

Total of 5 snapped exhaust straps
One snapped Exhaust
One snapped set of exhaust headers
2 snapped exhaust header bolts

All over a 5/6 month period on a bike that had done sub 4k miles

And yes servicing costs are higher than the 1125 too.

Was more interesting to ride when it was working than the Gladius that replaced it mind.

And all that point to an incorrectly fitted or damaged exhaust system ;)

Bought another XB12SS on Tuesday night, agreed a sale yesterday and it's being ridden away on Saturday :) That's three Lightning Longs I have sold in the past two weeks so I'm looking to buy more and would like to see them go to people on here. If anyone is looking for anything in particular just let me know and I'll keep my eyes open for you.

From a personal point of view my XB12s has been totally reliable in the year I've had it.
Now if I could only get the thing to handle....

Check out the BMW GSer forum if you want to know about bikes that have problems

Oh Christ... I love my GS but geeze, they ain't 'bullet-proof' by a long way

I've owned 5 Buells on and off (fickle, back issues, financial situations.... Fickle) and I've had way more issues with my 2 GSs....

But like my Uly, I still love 'em

My XB9SX is crap and has broken down more times in 30,000 miles than I can count! :(

Now maybe the Germans will see sense and stop buying up XBs. lOl
