FYI We're staying at the Red Lion, Revesby on Saturday night.

This will be our 5th visit to the fireworks spectacular at East Kirkby. Previous years have seen a good turnout from UKBEG members. Jane will once again provide delicious home-made parkin :4roz:....

3.20 Queen Mary Airfield tour
4.00 Bomber Command Kit Talk 1
6.00 Hog Roast begins

Seeing (and hearing) four Merlin engines running at night with their exhausts spitting flames is something else and well worth the trip.

The fireworks and parkin aren't bad either :P....

Errrrrrr.... No...

parkin [ˈpɑːkɪn], perkin
n
(Cookery) (in Britain and New Zealand) a moist spicy ginger cake.

But yes, it is delicious....

We are planning to be there...... Cup of Hot chocolate by the NAAFI wagon and a bit of Parkin.... you can't beat it :yup: :yup:

There you go Jill and Willy. AFAIK flapjack also has oats in it rather than oatmeal and has no raising agent so produces a denser more biscuity type of texture

Never mind motorcycles and all that malarky, what you lot need is Jane's :4roz: recipe for perfect Yorkshire Parkin - these quantities make 72 portions by the way:

Mix in a bowl;
4 lbs of self raising flour with 18 teaspoons dry ginger.

Place in large pan;
1 pint milk
1 lb lard
1 lb block of margarine
2 lb granulated sugar
8 oz black treacle
8 oz golden syrup

Have ready to add;
9 eggs
4 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
½ pint boiling water

1, heat the pan with all ingredients until fats have melted and sugar has dissolved.

2, add to mixing bowl and mix together.

3, let the mixture cool and then add eggs.

4, dissolve bicarb with hot water and add to mixture.

5, pour mixture into two large baking tins and bake for 1 hour @ gas mark 4.

Delicious served cold or even more delicious served warm with fresh cream or ice cream :P...

We'll be at the Aviation Centre from around 6.00 tomorrow night. Although Saturday evenings forecast is 'less than perfect' for the East Kirkby area they're still expecting a big crowd - if you can't find us our mobile number is 0792 626 5582.

Another superb event at East Kirkby and once again, the Red Lion provided excellent food and hospitality.

For the afternoon and evening displays it stayed dry and wasn't too cold, which helped to attract record numbers. We've never seen it so busy. They introduced a couple of new features for this years event which worked very well and the firework display was the best ever - spectacular would be a pretty good description.

After the fireworks had finished we met up with the 'Smarty Party' from UKBEG and shared our last few pieces of parkin with them. Apologies if we missed anyone else.

The Aviation centre was absolutely packed... I can't remember ever seeing so many people there .... 50 minute queue for a cuppa and a burger :o

You can never fail to be impressed by the Lancaster Taxi run..... 4 V12 Merlins spitting flames.... Magic. Followed by a fantastic Firework display...... and a couple of portions of Parkin :yup:

A lovely evening and the weather was kind too.... great to see CJ and Jane. Thanks so much for the Parkin :4roz: .
