Hi Folks,

I have, or will have in a couple of weeks around 3.5K to spend on a Buell
Had an XB9R in the past and can honestly say it was the best motorcycle I've ever owned.
Unfortunately I found it a bit on the "small" side for me (I'm 6ft)
Like the look of the Uylesses and also the X1 Lightning
Question being,
Would I be able to buy something decent for that sort of money and also would I fit them ?
Any pointers/preferences you may have would be gratefully received.
Also any advice you may have regarding possible pitfalls faults with either model.
Any advice would be good advice.

Thanks all :D

for 3.5k you should find a good X1 :yup:

a couple normally on e-bay , some examples...

2001 is the "right one" however the registration letter can lie mine is a 2001 but on a Y reg.

the way to tell em is

they have the lower gear selector arm on , rather than the up an over type

the diagnostic plug for ecm is under the seat on the left near the fuses
the earlier ones are by the headstock

normally the engine is all black , but not always

they have a better quality primary tensioner

an :maz: says "the best built Buell"

the ignition switch can break down causing a misfire , HD ones are £90
custom chrome do a pattern one for £30 (which is better)

oh an they make your face hurt from grinning to much

X1 is the best, I have ridden 2 XB's and I am only 5'7" and I still prefer the size of the X1, the XB's had great cornering and handling, but were stupidly twitchy at 80 odd in moderate winds.....
If you ride in town a lot, try and find one that has had the US gearing fitted, EU gearing is a pain in town...Great bike and a wise choice.....

Wish I'd never sold the Firebolt to be honest, but as I said it was on the small side.
Great bike though and always fun to ride.
Had a hankering to build something though and now got that out of my system lOl
Wish I'd never embarked on my chop project though, the money plowed into it would have bought me something almost brand spanking :oooops:
Oh well, live and learn.

The Uly and the X1 are vastly different bikes, you will fit both but in very different positions. They were designed for different purposes ... The Uly is a do it all come tourer and the X1 is a do it all with a much more sporty edge to it.

You will probably be able to buy either with your budget, just depends on whether you are a tuber or fueller man. if you go for the Uly then go for an 07 or earlier but with your budget I reckon that's about right anyway ... :)

Certainly have, though it's not got any tax at the moment, and is in need of quite a bit of money wing spent on it after a couple of harsh neglected winters. :(

Glad you're still looking at buells, as much as mine has let me down I'd still say its the best bike I've ridden!

If you can control your right hand then this may be worth a punt -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2009-BUELL-11 ... 500wt_1202

like an XB but deceptively quick !

Hi wurzel1 I read you have been watching the yellow X1 on fleabay?

Will you be taking a punt on it?
If you are I'll stand back, as I don't want to bid against anyone on here.

The Guy doesn't want overseas bidders anyway. But I was considering giving him a call if no one bid on it.

I'm on the fence about the colour scheme anyway, I'd have to strip and paint it!

Good luck with your search. ;)

Regards,
Mick.

If you liked the Firebolt, try an 1125R.

But I'd either buy one that still has some warrenty on it, or buy one thats done some miles and had the niggly bits sorted. Buying an 08 model will negate any stator issues. Mine has done over 22k miles and hasn't needed any trips to the dealers other than usual servicing and a snapped belt in the last 12 months/12k miles.

Hi Mickrick,
No mate, I'm not in the position to buy for a couple of weeks, so please go ahead :D
Know what you mean about the colour scheme, it would have been satin black within a couple of days if I owned it
Would be all ears if some kind of swap was offered though, had three offers on mine so far, one couldn't get a loan sorted, one was just timewasting, and the last seems to be genuine and has the funds, but they won't be released to him for a couple of weeks or so.
Hi Coppersaucepipe,
Sorry mate, don't like the look of the 1125R, think it needs a V twin, supposed to be a fantastic ride though, but not for me :D
