Hello Chaps and Chapesses,

anyone who read my intro' in new members, will know I'm playing with the idea of getting one of these technicaly interesting machines.

From what I've read on here, the general consensus is that the best "Tuber" is a 2001 model X1. I like them a lot, and I have been watching the yellow and blue one on fleabay for over a week, and although I think it's a nice genuine bike (the Guy's owned it twice) I couldn't live with those colours.
I'd have to strip it and paint it! Which is a load of work, and expense, when I'm looking for something I can ride, and slowly fettle. I don't want to get into a project right now, as I already have three on the go!

So, here's the rub....
I keep looking at this,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Buell-S1-Ligh ... 415ed8289d

What do you think ? I think it could be a lovely looking machine once it's had a bit of a polish. (I'm a polisher, and I'd love to get my mitts around those headers!)
The Guy says it's been his for 4 years, and looking at his website, he turns out some lovely stuff!
Or am I looking at a potential nightmare?
Or, for that sort of money, should I buy a nice "Fueler"? :?

Cheers all,
Mick.

That has been around for quite a few months and is a little overpriced IMHO. The White Lightning is the one to have from the 98 model year and they can be picked up for less than that, if you are going to polish one up, you can start with a less clean example...

There are those who will tell you the best ever Buell is a 2001 X1, not sure of the model year of the yellow one however I would not be put off by the colour as you can buy a secondhand or carbon flyscreen and tank cover quite cheaply.

Mick

How much of the looking after will you do yourself? - Tubers were never officially imported into Spain.

There are some but they're few and far between. I will be selling mine I think - but it currently has prospective new daddy. Yes it's a heartbreaking thought.

Make a cheeky offer on the S1 he has been trying to sell it for ages. The yellow X1 will come in for much less as only at 2550 at the moment. Lot of bike for the cash. The S1 is worth no more than 4250 which he probably won't accept and the X1 will go for less than 3k and as pash says cheap to get another carbon body kit as well.

Up to you.

:yt: For the price of that S1 you could buy the X1 and have enough left to make it into a very nice ride :!:

Thanks for the replies. 8-)
Well the X1 went for less than 3k, but if I'd chipped in with a bid I'm sure it would have gone over 3k.
I wouldn't pay that for something I don't particularly like. If it had a black frame, then I could have painted the tank, mudguard, and chin thingy no problem, but the frame and wheels are quite a bit of work, and I don't have time for that right now.
Is it a plastic tank, or just a cover on the X1?

Chris, I would be doing all the work on my bike. I maintain and service a couple of 32 liter 2000hp V16's as part of my job, so I should be able to find my way around a V twin no problem, once I've got a hold of a manual. ;)
Are you saying yours may be coming up for sale, but someone has first refusal?

So the S1 is a tad on the expensive side then. But pash had his advertised for 4700.
What's the difference between the S1W and S1WL ?
Would it be a good buy at 4700? I still like the idea of a carb. :old:

Cheers,
Mick.

Thanks for the download links Nutah :yup: The first one actually worked well for me! I see now that the X1 tank is actually under a cover. So I can see now how it would be easy to change the colour of the bodywork.
Steep learning curve here! lOl

Yes pash I know, but I did say advertised, not sold. ;)

Anyway

Only the price is bad? It is a 98 model by the way.
The seller says it's the same spec as the white lightning, or is he talking bollocks?

Well I'm off on me hol's on Saturday, so I can't arrange much untill I get back, then we're into Crimbo and the silly season
So I'll just have to see what's about when I get back.

Toodle Pip, and thanks again for the input, opinions etc. I'm taking it all in like a sponge. :)

Regards,
Mick.
