A quick Google brought up the Nissin website.

So the AP calipers are 205g lighter.
Assuming the Buell disc bells are stainless, (My bastard Son of ebay and beer is still in U.K. so I can't see) by switching to alluminium bells also, you could be looking at saving nearly 1kg of unsprung weight over the standard calipers on a twin disc setup. ;)

Then there's these at 650g 8-)
http://www.apracing.com/info/products.a ... _2542_2541
Which would save a wopping 630g for a pair!

But they're a race caliper, so probably don't have dust seals on the pistons, also you may not be able to buy pads with a road compound off the shelf.
But if you don't do a lot of milage, I don't recon the dust seals are a problem.
What BGD did for me, was use a larger road donor pad, and profile it for the race caliper on the waterjet. :yup:

But I have a feeling milky is looking at buying a Nissin caliper and disc for a much more economical conversion?
Sorry to take your thread slightly OT Mate! :oooops:
Interesting though innit?

What a "bell"? A disc carrier? The Buell discs have alloy carriers. As do the Pro Lites.

How much is that AP caliper then? You would still have to fashion a mounting plate for it which will add additional weight and cost.

'Bell' is the car terminology for disc-centre/carrier as it is usually bell or top-hat shaped.

Yes, the disc carrier I call a bell. (Cheers rik :) )
Ah I see, I didn't know what Buell bells are made of.
Isn't the Buell caliper mounted to a mounting block, which is then mounted to the fork leg? As in the pictures you posted, so you already have the weight of that anyway.
You would have to make it for a radial mounted caliper, as opposed to a lug mount. I think the radial mount is much tidier anyway.
Of course it would all cost, but when has modding anything been cheap. lOl
I don't have a price list for AP, I only know what I paid for my specific parts, but I know there where other calipers which where less than £300 a pop, they are 4 piston formula car calipers. I doubt the bike stuff would be more.
It would be an interesting project, but I'm sure someone is already making kits.

Although I'm not too sure of the "wavey disc" thing? :? What's the purpose of that?
I recon you could be looking at up to £1,500+ VAT for a bespoke set up including calipers, brackets, bells, discs, pads, and mounting hardware (Disc bobbins & ht bolts) Then you may need to look at the master cylinder, depending on the caliper piston area.
But of course you could keep the standard bells and discs which would save you around £500 on a bespoke kit.

Are two 340mm discs a bit too much GM?

Look good. What sort of beer tokens are we talking for those?

Pash, what about the size of the XB bisc? Granted they may have smaller pad area, but that's a lot of leverage. But just realised, I think they only have one?

these worked quite well ... better view here .... as did these, lighter too.... close up here.....cheapest (and in all honesty, probably best) are these .........another view with a very light Galespeed front wheel....

I think my twin Brembos (discs, callipers, adapters, hoses, M/c) and a 4 pot rear calliper conversion set me back just under a grand. Made a HUGE difference.

I like Pretech stuff. I've been offered a full set for the R3 - but I really cant be bothered. Reasonably priced imo.

Very reasonable I think too.

OF great pictures mate! Do you have any more details of those setups?

Cheers,
Mick.

Certainly ....first lot are Harrison Billet calipers acting on standard Buell discs, nice people to deal with and available immediately.....second lot are PFM Brakes, much favoured by Maz but difficult to come by apparently.....they are quite local to me so may have a mooch round there in the New Year and see what the supply story is.....

Last pics are of an 05 Gixxer 750 front end resprung and revalved by MH racing (also have a set modified by JH racing and a set done by K-tech, I notice very little difference but them I am a bit of a blunt instrument with no finesse) and fitted with the 4 piston radial calipers (the ceramic coated variety) from an 04 ZX10 (black) or Gixxer (Gold).... IIRC..... acting on standard Suzuki discs via a Brembo radial master cylinder and HEL lines .....the whole lot cheap as chips and remarkable with EBC pads although, much like tyres, pads are a very personal choice and opinion varies widely ....easy job to make the Suzuki yokes fit the Buell frame, only downside to this setup is a slightly reduced steering lock although there are endless specialist companies that can charge you a lot for new yokes as well to cure that if you find it an issue.

OF the GSXR route is one that I am going to use. I have everything but the wheel and the discs which is in the post (apparently). I reckon the total cost will be around £550 using GSXR 600/750 forks K8 forks, bottom yolk and wheels and discs with GSXR1000 K6 calipers and master cyclinder with an LSL top yolk for a GSXR600/750 K5. All the stuff is available with very low mileage as the racers take it off and upgrade it and keep the originals for spares or sell it on. Plus the other benefit is better forks as well as lighter front wheel and stiffer spindle.
