It's the petrol fumes that cause the problem, the bubbling of the paint tends to be on the top area of the tank as the fumes rise and permeate the cheapo plastic used to produce the tanks. Having the tank coated internally with the correct type sealer is the only solution, then a new paint job.

Or prick the bubbles, massage them out and continue to do it until there are sufficient holes for all the reaction products to escape or all the adhesive to have reacted, whichever comes first...

Hmmm......IME pricking the bubbles only makes things worse, dont know why but it does :?

Tank on my S1W lasted 13 years until last year when the panel on the right hand side at the rear of the tank developed some blisters.......graphics are still fine :?
Drained the tank and left the cap off, they haven't got any worse......yet :x

I am going to get Willy to help me drill right through, cut out the middle man, and let the gas out...

Noticed a small bubble on the lower right side of my M2 tank yesterday :?
Did the pin through the bubble job but doesn't look like it will do it.
Just seems weird as i have had the tank 11 years and only now it has started :sad1:

My decals blister up. I just push them back down again. The bike is 14 years old, it's not life or death.

Dream machine painted mine, it was stunning, with in 4 months the decals where bubbling  sent it back and its still there, they are stripping every bit of paint off, some fibreglass will be involved and hopefully it will be sorted.

The paint won't set hard either.

Was the tank bubbling in its previous colour? Is it a bad tank?

Daywalker was looking at a carbon fibre cover as a solution.

Bloke on the one LC site does carbon and he had just overlaid carbon over the steel LC tank but it sounds like a plan to maybe just have a top cover like the X1 :yup:
